You may have posted this video in 2015 but here I am almost 7 years later in awe at the beauty of the work you do. Heating sand to darken the wood in order to add shadow, depth and dimension is new to me but I am still learning. My informal instructor uses very light stains to achieve a similar look but I think your method adds more depth. I will practice this on scrap before I try it on a new project because I am not happy with the finished result using stains. Absolutely beautiful and meticulous work.

I too am just a novice on this art form. If you would care to communicate, let me know here and maybe we can figure out a way to swap email addresses. I'm 80 years old and took a class about 9 years ago. Just now getting back into the hobby.

I had one that looked exactly like yours whose nickname was the vicious guard dog also. Sure made me miss that one. And the marquetry lesson was good too

Great video!! ive been trying to do marquetry with a knife with mixed results. I hadn't been able to find any videos on how to do it with a fret saw, the angled donkey is a great help. after watching this video I have created some fairly good pieces, Thanks for the video Peter

Wood Review TV No worries!! I was wondering if Peter or Wood Review TV could help me with what fret saw blades I should be using? I was given the blades iam using at the moment and iam about to run out of them and I have no idea what to ask for or where to buy them. Any info would be fantastic! Thanks, andrew

9amac Hi Andrew, Peter said use a single cut scroll saw blade. Avoid double cut or spiral cut blades. Teeth need to be pointing down so the saw cuts on the downstroke. Try: Olson Skip Tooth Scroll Saw blades, No 2/0, 28 TPI, FR44000 Available in blister packs of 12 from Carbatec or Timbecon in Australia for around $8 per pack, or Amazon if international

I see that you have a nice scroll saw in your shop. Why don't you use it rather than the fret saw? I'm just curious as I learned to do this using a scroll saw.

One of the nicest videos about Marquetry I have watched so far.. I just started and I think I am falling in love with this art.. However I am on a budget and I can't afford a saw.. I have regular art knife.. but I can't get it to do the edges and It takes at least 3 times to cut.. Any advice?

this is a fantastic video thank you and is greatly informative I'm going to attempt teaching myself and I was wondering who/where you get your materials and tools from I've been able to source a fare amount of veneer from a friend though it appears much thicker than what you've been using

Hi Jasmine, thanks for the great feedback and good to hear you're going to give marquetry go. Here's a link to some of the timber and tool suppliers we use: www.woodreview.com.au/page/suppliers

Thanks for sharing this video. It’s great & so informative & well presented so we can understand it all easily :) This may be a silly question but I was wondering why you use the hand saw instead of the scroll saw? N.K :)

This is some of the most magnificent work I have ever seen. Can you tell me where I can purchase that particular coping saw and blades. The blade looks smaller in diameter than any I've seen here in West Virginia. It could be my eyes.....it's very early.
@woodreviewtv5 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert, The saw is a Bahco 302 fret saw which I source from Axminster in the UK but I’m sure there would be suppliers in the US. The blades are 2/0, 28 tpi skip tooth pinless scroll saw blades from companies like Pegas. Regards, Peter Young.

That is too hard.. here how i do it. 1.draw the picture directly on the MDF or whatever you'll use. 2. cover it with transparent book cover. 3. since you can see the drawing, you can cut the pieces you want with blade knife. 4.you take the piece you cut ( the transparent book cover ) and put it on the veneer. 5. cut the veneer on the shape of the piece you cut with scissors. 6.glue the finished veneer on the MDF. and repeat to the next piece. but I liked the shading part. it's new to me using sand..
