Instead of the emojis in the strings in the array where your symbols are located, replace them with the path where your images are located much like in the you would link a css or a javascript file etc. to an html file in the head tags.

Please don't use this as a portfolio project. It is great to learn the basics, but this isn't something a professional would make. This goes for most guides online. If you want to use this as the foundation for a portfolio project then add some novel features, give it a unique name, add user authentication, give users the ability to interact in real time, create a nice landing page and either provide a test account or Google sign in for the project. If you have your first job in the industry then get a domain for it, add analytics, add an email marketing system, and add something unique to the experience.
