An EV benchmark, or "bump" is something that occurs in a Pokemon's positively affected Nature stat. AT LEVEL 50, the positively affected stat will experience a 2 point increase at three distinct points in its investment; the first occurs early on (there is a formula for that if you care to search for it), and the next two at every 80 EVs afterward. The "bump" is individual for every Pokemon, so it's easier to just mess with the teambuilder one by one. There are videos on the channel for team building; they can all be found in the Series 12 VGC playlist for Gen 8 gameplay.

typically I would do the 15/16 roll in EV’ing to survive something strictly because it would give me extra EV’s to put somewhere else (attacking prowess or speed creeping) and the odds of a specific EV’d attack getting that 1/16 roll is extremely slim

I use 252 252 4 on a lot of pokemon, but I will resort to different splits on pokemon that need proper bulk like zapdos or snorlax. however I can't see myself using snorlax anymore with chi leapord with sacred sword, even if I give it ghost terra

Just use the ursaluna. It's a better snorlax. It gets belly drum and you don't have to put flame orb.

Calculating speed tiers with a trick room tailwind team is a pain in a butt, ik this, bcuz ive built a team like this on showdown.

Just calculate your fast/mid tier options for tailwind and your trick room options as normal.

Quick question, why do we need 4 points to round out the ev spread?

When you create an EV spread, you either invest in 3 stats or 5 stats. If you only put EVs in 4 of your stats, you'll find that you still have 4 EVs left and can't put them anywhere. Try it on showdown!

@@CloverBells oh awesome thanks :) follow up question I tried working with a frosmoths special attack stat looking for the bump (I'm trying timid nature if that means anything) but I can't find it

@@X-Calibur101 And that's why you can't find it! Because you're timid. The bump is always in the natured stat. So in this case, if you made the frosmoth timid, you'll see the bumps in the speed stat, whereas if you want to see it in the special attack stat, then it needs to be modest (or quiet).

wait in tournaments they let your opponents know your moveset? why? that can give away any weird strats / coverage you have. especially if you're using uncommon mons

Yup! This is new for Scarlet and Violet and wasn't the case back then in previous games. However, it's been much better this way because now you have to rely on your play to win rather than the "get lucky once surprise factor". If you want to win, you have to outplay the opponent and that's how it should be. It is also better for equity in terms of allowing newer players to do well rather than having the old heads dominate and we have seen that a lot in this generation. We have seen plenty of 1st time players win regionals these last few years and that's great! There's an old saying - bring the player, not the team. That being said, there are still competitions like the global challenge that are still closed sheets where you don't have any information aka just like ladder, but thats different than the official tournament setting

🤔 if you're creating a optimal set won't others do the same and base their defensive spread on their apponents max damage output. So therefore they will be doing less damage because of their defensive spread. In a way it kinda defeats the purpose of the spread bcs a top tier player won't fully invest in attack therefore doing less damage and allowing you to survive even if you didn't applied EV in defenses. But I guess these spreads make for a longer match. 🤷🏽

Yes and no! It depends on what the player decides to do with said Pokemon and it's not known until the match is played and the interactions take place with the speed tier as well as what kind of damage theyre doing or even taking. They may EV it defensively or simply go for an offensive set (take Arcanine, for example. Some of them can be +156 adamant or simply a careful set). Remember Justin and his flutter mane? He was essentially almost max defense!
