For anyone who is struggling with getting their CC glass effect to take effect, if you click the drop down box where it says bump map under where it says surface and change this to 'none' it should take effect.

Man, you REALLY have to take some teaching lessons - this is all fantastic for those who have an intermediate to advanced knowledge of AE, and although I am proficient in Photoshop and have worked in the Film Industry for the past 20 years, the rush to the end with copying, pasting and ripping through menus without showing the steps you are taking just leaves most people behind.

Using Noise Type: Spline instead of Linear and clicking Invert for the Fractal Noise makes a nice effect for water too. I think it gives a better water effect.

@IgnaceAleya1

Just make a pre-comp from all the layers then put an image below that pre-comp layer and change the pre-comp layer's blend mode to screen I suppose that'll get you the result you want, or you could mess around with different blend modes..

This is awesome! I don't really get the people complaining about having trouble following you. Maybe for someone who is totaly new to AE. But if you have done at least something already, you should have no problem with the speed or verbosity :-)

Also, I discovered if you select "Invert" above the Contrast and Brightness settings, it sort of creates the same "Glass" effect thus eliminating that step. However you won't have additional crontrol over that particular effect. Either way, THANK YOU FOR THE TURORIAL!! Please keep them coming!

Your step about displacement is beyond frustrating...you need to explain what you're doing other than "copy this layer here and go back to composition and paste over here...."...we can't track where your mouse is, so saying "copy this layer" we have no clue what you're doing...

This was a very good tutorial! I used this just to play around and practice with some of After Effects's effects, and I'll post the video in a day or so. One suggestion, though; you should put an ambient-type music in your videos. Not one that is distracting, but rather calming and intriguing. Might make the videos slightly more enjoyable (no offense or anything, just a suggestion). :^ ) Keep up the great work!!

@Splitter885 10 жыл бұрын
Samnold Telfort, what he means at 8:00 is go into the "water fractal noise comp" by double clicking on it, then copy the "water layer", go back to "Comp 2" and paste it on top. Then on the effects control of your copied "water layer", delete your Tritone effect and precompose your "water layer" by clicking (ctrl+shift+c) on your keyboard and name it as "displacement". After all that, follow the rest of the instructions from 8:22.

Ok, I am struggling with an issue that has been frustrating me for hours. I followed multiple tutorials to do a water ripple effect for a logo. It came down to the Wave World and Caustics plug-ins. I have everything set to go. The problem is, maps and caustics gives a grey background that I can't remove while maintaining the effect. The water layer has a blue fill, but I would like to be able to remove the blue solid in the background and only have the effect on the logo image. I can't believe this is so complicated. Why is it so difficult to maintain an effect and have the background completely transparent? I am running out of time. I couldn't find a job in 3D animation anywhere, and now I am stuck trying to figure out problems in after effects with no job or money.
