I also keep a black or dark grey piece of smooth paper or plastic (Duralar makes a black craft plastic in addition to the white) to place under areas of light colors so they show up better and I don’t miss spots, especially colors that are the same value as the film. I recently purchased sheets of galvanized steel cut to fit my drafting table and 2 sizes of portable drawing boards to make them all magnetic boards and will spray paint them with a neutral grey paint and then spray seal it. This should make for a smooth magnetic surface that I can draw directly on and the neutral grey will make it easier to see both light and dark values and colors without effecting them the way a bright white surface can.

I love watching you work!! I’ve learned so much! I have one question, when you use drafting film do you use a backer board? If you do, does it have adhesive on it?

I enjoyed your tips and techniques but honestly, without a picture to put it into context, I had a really hard time figuring out what area on the cat you were actually doing. I guess I'm a more visual person than many.

Usually when I create a tutorial I have the photo up in the corner, but this wasn't a tutoial it was a piece i was drawing, so editing it I just used the video footage :)

Bonny, this video has come out at a perfect time for me however, I am STILL Confused about this "slice tool" you are using. It doesn't look like you are CUTTING Lines in your artwork, and whatever you are using doesn't look like the Craft Knife I am familiar with. I'm trying to understand WHAT exactly this "Slice Tool" is. Is it like a little hard, pointy plastic thing and you're scraping Colored Pencil back off??? Is there a Brand Name for this thing?? I'm across the pond, over here in the U.S. Where would I find this strange thing?? Help! Many thanks.

I have other videos that show you the slice tool and no it’s not cutting it’s getting to scraping 🥰

If you look through Blick’s or perhaps Jackson’s I got my ceramic slice tool through Blick’s. There are different types so take a good look at her videos. It’s called “Slice ceramic crafting tool.” It can come with a cap and extra blades for around $20 US. It’s as easy as that. They will not cut you and they just remove a line of work and add texture by making hair or feathers look real. Until you use it you don’t realize just how nice it is. I used exacto knives in the past and still sharpen some of my pencils with a knife but this is the “cat’s meow” and worth it if you are serious about doing this type of work. It works nicely on scraping my watercolors for white wispy hair while the watercolor is still slightly wet also. Extra blades are available. It would take a long time to dull them. Credit cards are too flimsy and knives can rip the paper. Yes it is worth it.

@jenniefrench9194, Thank you for responding. I did research and found what Bonny uses. It's arrived from Amazon. I'm wager to try using it.

Just a quick question.. because drafting film is so easily ruined.. how do you ship a piece like this? Do you have it framed and then sent? That’s my only downside to drafting film.. one wrong move…😬
