Have you ever tried to get the effect by scanning blank paper and using it for texture with blending modes (screen, overlay, blend, etc) on either or both combined?
@arnisbrown58482 жыл бұрын
That this is so unorthodox using mixed media instead of Photoshop, textures and layers makes it so much more interesting and fun. Right on.

Right on. There are lots of possibilities of what you can do with this technique

how is it unorthodox? if anything, analog processes are normal and traditional.

This process can be made much easier using textures, photoshop and a pen tool (with increased flow).....but still a new creative way I haven't seen before
@creativeflow.mp42 жыл бұрын
Your definitely right but with mixed media as a whole this is how most the work is done. This tutorial is just the basics when it starts to get more advanced you have a lot more freedom of what you can do when you print out frames. Digital is also very hard to replicate the actual textures this effect gives you. Digital is definitely faster though for sure. Comes down to preference!
@animationministry2 жыл бұрын
@@creativeflow.mp4 It's not hard to replicate textures digitally in After Effects. Add a slight blur, then some grain, scan some wrinkled paper, reposition the paper every few frames and add sketch marks by using stroke & masks with roughen edges. There's also a lot you can do with fractal noise too.
@creativeflow.mp42 жыл бұрын
@@animationministry Thank you for the comment. I just haven't been able to replicate it as well as printing. Maybe I'm just using the textures in the wrong way lol. Just the way I've been able to accurately create textures!
@DSBac2 жыл бұрын
@@creativeflow.mp4 yeah, you don’t get quite the same look doing this effect digitally. I’ve done similar animation digitally with all the paper texture layers, grain, sketching in photoshop, etc. And while you can get a remarkably organic look that way, it still lacks that realism you get using this method. I saw a music video not long ago (wish I could remember the name) that used lots of printed frames and then they painted with acrylic on the paper and scanned it back in. I tried replicating it in photoshop, but realized you couldn’t get the same realism as an actual brush on paper. … so I can appreciate how time consuming this technique is. But worth the effort!👍🏻

super cool. When it comes to having deadlines though, trying to replicate this on a larger scale like 30 frames or on multiple different clips with an apporaching deadline id definitely recommed using pre scanned paper packs and photoshop brushes that mimic actual pen lines. But for like a personal project or a video you have some time to work on, doing this will always be better than using overlays and brushes. Great video man!
@creativeflow.mp42 жыл бұрын
100%. A way around this is to set up your edit in a way that cuts fast to the beat. This helps scenes not be too drawn out and when you wanna do a paper effect it won't be that long due to the fast cuts! I typically stay away from anything over 20 frames. You can also reverse the effect to have it play out longer. Definitely time consuming though similar to animation
