That would work, too. We almost exclusively use Aleene's Tacky Glue products. We just love them!

I heard that soaking the egg shells in straight vinegar for several hours, it helps in detaching the membrane. I tried it and Welll Ahh!! It pealed out with ease! I love sharing and receiving tips for crafts. :-)

@scoulisful Yes! This technique should work on glass but we would recommend that you use the Aleene's Original Tacky Glue for any projects that require extra hold. We don't recommend the dry adhesives for glass.

Yes, you can spread a very thin coat of 3D sealant on with your finger. If its too thick it will drip so it's better to apply thin coats. A very thin coat will take a few hours to dry but the thicker coatings can take several days.

Heidi used Ranger Adirondack Alcohol Inks on this project. We have not tested food coloring for this technique. You want to be sure that you do not oversaturate the dry adhesives with liquid. With the alcohol base, the inks dry quickly.

If you use this technique on wood, you could drill and add a jump ring. We used the resin shapes that we sell at shopcool2craft (dot com). Heidi used Adirondack Alcohol Inks (available at Michaels) or our shopping site noted above.

This is really nice. But getting Aleene's products in my country is impossible. I had to have just normal Aleene's tacky glue sent from Norway:) And something simple as wooden shapes I can't get either so I used Black Fimo clay. I find that boiling the egg makes it much easier to remove the membrane. It becomes like rubber and you can push the membrane Down on the egg with a finger and lift off the Shell. And you can still eat the egg:) Thank you!!

Thanks for the tip on boiling the egg! And kudos to you for using your creative talents to substitute materials. We know it can be challenging for our crafty friends around the world to find all the materials we use in our videos so we really appreciate your resourcefulness!!

The Glossy Accents is definitely much thicker than the gel glue. I think it will be a matter of personal preference and testing to be sure that it's compatible with the materials you are using.

I love making both pendants and trinket boxes with the eggshells. I do use a top coat not the gel that you used and since we sell at markets outside here in Florida I am having some problems with fading. Does this gel that you used have a uv protectant ? If not do you know of a product that does? Thank you Lovingly Lynne

The gel glue you discovered worked so well, might I use it instead of "Glossy Accents" on other projects as well? I love Alleen's products and WE KNOW they're more reasonably priced. And I love my crafting!!! Pls. reply. GracieRhae, Utah

Hi - I'm a long time fan of your family and used to watch your Mom's show when I was stationed on Guam - so glad to have found you! My question is: how long does it take for the sealant glue to dry and can it be spread around with my fingers for coverage on an object (easter egg) in increments?

@Whitefeather21512 жыл бұрын
here's one idea I heard of. Place a generous amount of table salt in the egg and on the pieces, let sit 24 hs. this will draw the moisture out of the membrane and it will end up in one piece almost like paper, just remove.

If you go with watercolors, set them with a spritz of dollar store hairspray before glossing. Acrylic spray gloss will work, but it costs more, you have to shake it longer, and it stinks for a long time.

Barb Land As long as it is a heavily pigmented dye, you should achieve some interesting effects!

I tried the Aleene's Tacky Glue as a varnish. After weeks of curing, my piece inadvertently had a wet object placed over it for a few minutes. When uncovered the tacky glue "varnish" had turned to a sticky mess that rubbed right off. I strongly suggest a different type of varnish NOT Aleene's Tacky Glue.

The membrane will stick to the adhesive but there's a good chance the eggshell will separate from the membrane and fall off.

1, the inside of the egg takes water colors better than the outside - they're brighter. 2. If you bake the eggshells after boiling them (I did 15 minutes at 300 degrees F.), it will dry the eggshells and even the leftover membrane will take the water colors better than the outside. The downside is that it's not as easy to break the eggshells into smaller pieces when the inside is up. But to stop getting that membrane off, I'll deal with the issue.

All you have to do ...is put the egg shells in water WHILE your 'eating' the eggs...When you wash your dishes...then tear the membrane out... dry over nite :)Question.... what did you put on the BACK of the pendent ...?? the same glue I guess... :)

+Josephine Tyree TFS! We'll give this a try! The back of the pendant is just painted. If you like, you can seal it with the glue.
