Um ok so it took me a solid minute or 30 to fully get this down, bc I like to really REALLY understand what each hook, pull, stitch, and crochet is, does, etc. so it took me a little bit but once I got it!?…. Thanks so much. I’m autistic and can’t follow a pattern to save my life my stitches fall apart or are very loose. About 5 years ago my carer taught me how to do a granny square blanket. And that’s all I been doing since. And I been making blankets for local charity for babies that have passed away. And they want them without big holes just tiny holes so I have been searching for something I can learn for weeks and I’ve found it. Done my first 2 rows today with using the one you show with no chain as I didn’t know how many I would need 75 seems the right amount. As they want 50cm squares or there abouts big blankets. I would love to add some rows of pink to this pattern. So far I have 2 rows of pink after the 5th row. Hey, i find that if I’m looking to create something with stripes I used a piece of paper and a couple of coloured pens or pencils to drawn out the rows so I can count how many of each I would like l. That way I can tick them off and no when to change. I’ve only ever done stripes where they are the same distance the whole way through, however making them smaller together does sound like it would be a nice effect. The only thing you will have to bear in mind is working out in advance exactly how many rows you will be doing in total. So that after the centre point you know to start increasing the width again. Sorry to hear you were having some challenges. Was it the foundation chain you were struggling with? The start offers 2 ways to get going, for beginners a simple chain of 151 and for more advanced crocheters a no chain foundation row (as demonstrated) perhaps try the chain. I have some foundational videos on how to chain and how to crochet both the single crochet and double crochet, if these are new to you. Hope that helps :)

I suppose it depends on what weight yarn, hook size, and of course how bit your cot is. I would perhaps do your chain to start and the you could make an estimate of width based on that :)

Hi, it’s sounds like you’re popping too many stitches in, don’t forget the last stitch is only 1 hdc. To check I would check how many groups of sc and hdc you have on your first row and then your latest row and see if you have a different amount :)

Hi really loving this pattern I’m a beginner and have just had to unravel about 5 rows back to the cast on row as the sides were going diagonal in. can you tell me how to make sure the sides carry on staying straight or where I’m going wrong please.

I would suggest using a stitch marker to make sure you’re keeping track of exactly where your last stitch should go. I suspect you’re missing a stitch at ye end causing it to reduce the number of stitches in your row and slant in

The first option, you want to make sure you have an even number on your row, so the extra 1 is your turning chain :-)

You can indeed do this in the round. Although I’m not sure what you mean by continuous square? Do you mean a tube / double up 2 layer blanket? What are you planning to make with it?

I generally just tie the two together and carry the end along under the next few stitches, I then weave in later with a darning needle :-)

I think any DK designed for babies would work well, you could consider a blend with some bamboo in, that makes a really soft draping fabric :-)

It's 8 Ply. I have had trouble finding it again. I think it may have been discontinued :-) A nice soft baby yarn would work :-)

I used to have this problem until I discovered I could slow any KZbin video down. On IPad, click on the three dots (top right) then choose 'playback speed' option from drop down box. Good luck x
