Hi! A couple things: -thank you for this tutorial, the can cozy turned out fantastic 👍 -i like your tutorial style and how specific you are. In regards to the slip stitch, A lot of patterns will usually call for one or the other (as in in the chain or the first stitch) but dont make it clear in the pattern so its a guessing game, so thanks for being specific on exactly where the stitches go! -your constant counting makes me feel validated because I'm the same way with my projects so im glad im not alone 😅 -i learned the hard way what "size 4" meant because i had neverheard hook sizes be described in that way before 😆 (so for anyone else in that boat: "uk size 4" is a size J/10 6mm in american terms) because i tried starting first with a 4 mm and i quickly realized that was WAY too small. But i started over and it worked out 😄
@crochet.with.illjay7 ай бұрын
Hi! Thanks so much for this feedback. I’m glad I was clear in most but the hook size 😅 I do in fact use a 4mm size hook. I am realizing my tension is very loose compared to others and maybe a 5mm or I guess 6mm would be better. Also I will note they should be kinda tight fitting at first as they will stretch a little over time.

Hi! Thanks for your video! Have you tried will a 'tallboy" can? They are larger than a regular can. I saw the comments on the white claw sized cans and decreasing down to 8 initial stitches. Do you think increasing to 10 would make it wide enough?
@crochet.with.illjay Жыл бұрын
I’ve have made the tall boys before! I do the same pattern, but start with 10 stitches, then 20 for rnd 2, and 30 for rnd 3. Then more rounds to make it taller.

Hi Laura, for an thinner can like a white claw or something, I started with 8 stitches, then increased the same way to 16, then 24. Go up with 24 stitches about 17 rounds :)

I guess I did my stitches too tight/small so my bottom ended up looking too small to fit an average can. If I were to add another row onto the bottom, would I use the 2 HDC in each stitch again or use the 1 HDC then 2 then 1 then 2 again until the row is done? Thanks for any help!
@crochet.with.illjay Жыл бұрын
Hi Grace. I would recommend two things, either go up a hook size and try the same pattern. Or on round 3, add a few more increases to stitch count is greater, maybe 30 sts.

Watching this in 2024 because I would like to get into crocheting! With that being said, when it comes to doing the slip stitch, how can you tell the chain stitches from the actual first stitch?
@hannahflinkert99016 ай бұрын
As a beginner you should rely heavily on stitch markers for that. I often mark the first and last stitches that count. Sometimes the first stitch is the top of the chain. Sometimes it’s the first actual stitch after the chain. That way you know when to stop making stitches in a round and where to join your slip stitch to

I’m confused how you have 27 stitches each round of you are slip stitching in the first stitch of every round and not the chain stitch. Wouldn’t that make each round decrease 1?

No because you do the first st of the next round in that same st with the slip st.
