This is my Aspen Crochet Shrug, an easy even for beginners shrug , it looks so much as a dardigan although it is a simple rectangle. Watch the video and you will do this beautiful garment to wear all fall and winter long.

To make it even faster for me I machine knitted a rectangle on 9mm or bulky machine needles then leisurely completed the edging with a 11 millimeter hook but you can choose what works for your design/gage.

Hi Rayna, thank you so much! well I am not sure about the texture you will get using a thinner yarn and hook. I but its not necessary to get my Aspens texture , it sounds ok to me... your combination of yarn and hook , the important thing is the fit and to achieve this you should make a shrug at the right measurements . You can see here merrymarystories.blogspot.com/2018/09/aspen-crochet-shrug-free-pattern.html the written pattern and the finished measurements of size small. Make a sample and according to your gauge make your shrug in the desired size. If you want a special size tell me and I will give you the measurements of Aspen shrug. Hi! Well since you want to use a much lighter yarn you should make a swatch and crochet in pattern several rows and measure it so you will figure out what to do. Hi Bev! Yes I beleive you could make it in a finer yarn, V stitch is a nice stitch , of course you will have to use a smaller hook so to make the right size make a sample and follow the gauge to make a shrug in the measurements you want! happy crocheting! regards Mary

Try it , it is easy enough , I beleive if you are a beginner you will need to take it slow to the ribbing pattern, but I give the exact number of dc worked in sleeves and in main pattern you will work as many sts as in body so....no problem , go on!! regards Mary!

Hi Marina , thank you! You have to make a width 40"(102cm) = this is your foundation chain , but because its not safe to measure the chain its better to measure when the first row is finished. Then wor for as many rows to obtain a length 36,2" (92cm), happy crocheting!

How many chains for a large size shrug, how do we figure that out? Did I miss it, i see she has a paper with measurements on it🤔

Hi Rosie!! For a L size chain 103 chains , I estimate the width about 110 cm , if you want wider your should chain 112 . Crochet until your piece is 100 or 110 cm long or as long as you want it to be. You have to crochet with a chunky yarn and the same hook size. The most sure time to check your width is when you have already worked at least your first row! Happy crocheting!
