@@naztaziait does not let me leave my own personal comments 😭😫🥺 My question is for the fabric circle over the wood disc it can come out. I guess you can glue it right? Also can you use regular yarn for that wood disc?
@naztaziaАй бұрын
The fabric circle thing inside is really optional, and I used it mostly just to match the gray yarn instead of having a bright wood color base showing, so it's not truly needed. If including it, and since it's made of felt, anything such as glue or even sewing it to the spaces can work. Yes, regular yarn will work, I would just suggest if it's the regular medium sized we find in the craft places to use either 2 or 3 strands held together to create a thicker yarn for the basket.

My elderly neighbor lady use to make these but with the square shape and made an attached lid on one of the sides and put plasticized pictures of kittens on the 4 sides and top when I was a little girl. Goodness, that was back in the 1950's. Thank you so much for reminding me of that wonderful lady that crocheted all her life and gave so many fantastic gifts to us. She used to enter in the fair, too and got loads of blue and purple ribbons. I don't know if you enter but you would get oodles of prizes too!!! Thank you for all your tutorials!!! :-)
@2bless8Ай бұрын
She used a crochet cotton so it was thinner than the tutorial here, though.
@2bless8Ай бұрын
They also were not plasticized like we would think of today. Instead, it was a firm sheet of plastic cut out the same size as the picture and put over the picture. It was the 1950's-1960's.
@2bless8Ай бұрын
The picture was put over a piece of cardboard or something firm, then the picture, then the plastic. It worked anyway and it was a wonderful little trinket box about 5 x 5 x 5 inches.

EXCELLENT PROJECT! My son has a 3D printer, and I may have him print some of the bases for me, as well as a matching top. Love the way you did the stitch.

That's a great idea! The nice thing about especially the ABS filament that he'll probably use is it is super strong and perfect for basket bases and tops. Plus it comes in a ton of colors, so it can match the yarn almost perfectly. And he can make those spaces any size to fit the exact crochet hook used!

I got T-Shirt Yarn on Amazon. I actually ordered 2 skiens and I really don't like the T-Shirt yarn and how it makes the basket I'm doing look. Maybe it's the brand I have but I ended up sending 1 skein back to Amazon and kept the other skein to practice doing baskets.
@naztazia18 күн бұрын
I do find all brands of t-shirt yarn are different. Some consist of the really stretchy type of fabric material, and it's kind of like a thin tube, while some is more like quilting cotton fabric, it's more folded, and sturdier without stretching. Then there is some that is filled, so the t-shirt yarn outside part is a tube and it has stuffing or another cording inside.
@elainehathaway2108Ай бұрын
So no increase or decrease. I got the 9inch and 10 inch base
@naztaziaАй бұрын
Right! That's the nice thing about the bases, there's no need to do any more or less stitches than the number of spaces. The only thing that's important is to find a crochet hook that can fit through the spaces for at least that first round (sometimes the flat head crochet hooks do better) then switch over to a regular crochet hook for the remainder rounds. Plus find a yarn that is thick enough to make the basket look good (or hold 2, 3, or even 4 strands of regular yarn together when making each stitch).
@Bruiser89Ай бұрын
Where do you get the circle with holes in it?
@naztaziaАй бұрын
Several places like Amzn, Etsy and the Tem place by searching for round basket base.

@naztaziaАй бұрын
The wooden base helps a lot, plus the yarn has to be thick and sturdy and not very soft. Also, a smaller stitch like this one helps (instead of something like double crochet) and using a smaller hook also helps.
