Hello peanut gallery! Here is my very first crochet video! I'm starting with the basics but I think I'll be moving quickly through this series because I know many of you already know the basics. We'll be making actual crocheted blocks soon along with some corcheted projects! I can't wait! I hope you enjoy. --- Visit me on Patreon where I'm UNcensored!!! www.patreon.com/darlenemichaud --- Join my Peanut Gallery facebook group! facebook.com/groups/514101078926416/

Your tutorials are the best! I have been trying to relearn crochet after an illness that messed with my memory. I have watched lots of videos, and your are so detailed and easy to follow. Thank you for helping me believe that I can do it!

So excited to see this video! My Grandma and Great Grandma both tried to teach me to crochet and I never got past making a chain... Before they got aggravated with my ineptitude. I have been regretting not learning now. You make me feel like " I can do it! " yea! Excited to start practicing.

I’ve been crocheting for years, but had to watch your first crochet video. Will probably watch further ones as well. Well done. I think beginners will catch on quickly as your explanations are very clear.

Oh thank you so much Darlene. I’ve really enjoyed this & so excited to begin this series, You are a good clear spoken no faffing tutor, it has been one of my regrets, I was raised by grandparents and my Nan bless her always wanted to teach me crochet, I learned a wee bit of basic knitting from her but I was a young teenager then young adult with baby...it was always, “I will learn another time Nan”.....that other time never came, so I really appreciate your time in teaching this Darlene. x

I'm just getting back into sewing and crochet and find your videos a great encouragement to just chill and experiment. I rest my hook on my index finger like you do so we must both be odd. Hope you are feeling better.

That’s my favorite hook in my whole stash, Susan Bates 9/I. I’m partial to that brand because the end is pointier than Boye. My late sis was opposite and loved Boye.

You hold the yarn slightly different than I do, but not much. Excellent video.
@darlene.michaud7 жыл бұрын
After watching a few I see that I'm holding it way different than most. It never dawned on me to ever watch a crochet video until now. And I feel like a yarn holding freak! lol
@cwfan27 жыл бұрын
I can't figure out how people who hold the hook in the palm of their hand actually crochet. My mom taught me to hold the hook the same way you do. She said your wrist has to be able to move freely. On my left hand my mom always said the little finger is the feed and the forefinger was the tension. So my little finger is moving constantly feeding the yarn while my forefinger is held back to create tension. My mom crocheted since she was a kindergartner. I never saw her put it down and never pick it up again until 2 days before she died.

What type of yarn do you recommend for beginners? What size hook do you recommend also? thank you again
@darlene.michaud6 жыл бұрын
Buy any yarn. Use any size hook. It has nothing to do with being a beginner. It's all about what you feel like using. Experiment!

Darlene, when doing double crochet, do i add 2 chains at the end of a row b4 turning, where it's one chain on single crochet? very clear instructions on this video, when r u making the next crochet lesson? x
@darlene.michaud7 жыл бұрын
I recorded double crochet late last night and will be uploading that later. I chain 2 for double crochet before turning. Some do chain 3. Many different ways to do this stuff. Video is coming soon!
@janiceburns13617 жыл бұрын
What size needle are you using. Thank you for doing this.
@darlene.michaud7 жыл бұрын
It was a size 9 hook. It's actually smaller than I like for 4 ply yarn.

Hi Darlene i noticed that ur videos r creative commons i love ur tutorials n would like to ask permesion to share them on my youtube channel , i used some creative commons before but then the owners decided to u knw make claims on copyrights so i am lookin forward for ur responce
@darlene.michaud7 жыл бұрын
No sure what you mean. You are not allowed to copy someone else's video and upload the content as your own. But you are certainly allowed to share the link to someone's video.
@crochetlove7 жыл бұрын
i wont post it as my own i will let everyone know its urs but its ok if u dont want maybe you should change ur videos from creative common because that means that anyone can use ur content thats what youtube editors say thnx anyway

No matter how much i crochet i cannot keep the tension on my rows the same. I usually have a tight chain and every row after it's loose. I don't get it. Lol
@darlene.michaud2 ай бұрын
Most have a tight chain then loose after. You can use a bigger hook, one size up, for your chain then move down to the size you want for your rows. As for keeping the tension the same on rows, it's not a sin if they are not the same tension. Just go with it! You've got this!
