Thanks for explaining this project so well. I have some heart shaped granny squares in my scrap bin and will be joining them for a donation to my local homeless project. Grannies are so classic, timeless and versatile crochet project. Thanks for taking the time to share this project.

I had a customer send me your link to your pattern and I'm working on a pair right now. i did a couple of things a little differently and thought I'd pass them along. First, I used a magic circle to make the first square--easier to do and makes a nice tight hole in the center. Second, rather than cut the yarn for each color change, I just slip stitched to a corner and picked up the color each time--this avoids a bunch of loose yarn that has to be woven in. Seems to be working nicely for me. 🙂
@morganmouse1473Ай бұрын
is your magic ring still intact?
@tmckmusic8584Ай бұрын
After making a magic circle, sew your end in half way around and then go back the other way, and then reverse once more through a couple stitches. It won't come out!
@jax.terando241212 күн бұрын
@@tmckmusic8584 this is exactly how I do it and all my granny squares hold up even in the washer! If you are still a bit nervous about it you can also take a felting needle and do a few pokes by the end of the yarn tail and it locks the fibers together

Question--if I want to make a longer glove, like to just under the elbow, besides adding a longer chain for the ribbing, would I need to adjust (increase/decrease) the number of stitches the higher it goes?
@LullabyLodge3 жыл бұрын
Adding a longer chain would make the cuff longer but I have no idea if that would be wide enough as you go up the arm, there is no way to increase stitches in the usual way. It is possible that the ribbing might be stretchy enough or you could try crocheting half a row then changing to a larger hook for the second half of the row (towards the elbow) and then changing back to a smaller hook at the same point working towards the wrist.

if anyone struggled with their chain spaces feeling too large like i did (i think my tension is just too tight bc i do amigurumi), you can ch1 on the sides of the granny square and ch2 as normal on the corners to make the side holes smaller

These are my next project but I wonder if you can answer a yarn question? I have 6 balls of 50g DK Sirdar Baby Bamboo 95m/104 yards. I’d like to make these and a neck warmer. Is there a way to calculate how far this yarn would go? I am fairly new to crochet and have been shocked at how much yarn it took for my first big project of a blanket - cannot get any more of this one and would rather not be caught out. Any assistance is appreciated❤
@LullabyLodge7 ай бұрын
Sorry I am probably too late to help now, but yes that sounds like you would have enough.
@sallypoulter59787 ай бұрын
@@LullabyLodge aw thanks for replying. I forged ahead and used the 3 best colours to make the mitts, weighing each square as I went to know the quantity used/left. I then calculated that I had enough to make 2 squares of each colour for the neck warmer, sourced an extra colour to supplement for a border, found 2 beautiful shell buttons in my button box and completed the project! I’d love to send you a picture - how can I achieve this?

I'm doing the ribbing and I seem to be losing a stitch on every row so it's getting shorter as I'm going around. Any idea what I'm doing wrong, or how to add them back in without unravelling? Thanks x

The ribbing for the wrist is the only part that I’m still struggling with 😭
@rebeccamilligan3992 Жыл бұрын
I also struggled! It’s hard because you have to count / mark so your rows don’t go crazy. I’m too lazy tho so I just single crocheted all around ! Still looks good :)
@kestraavalon8 ай бұрын
I found it easier to go through the 1st and last both stitches on each row of ribbing rather than just every stitch all back loops ( for me it looks cleaner), and I have to concentrate and count too, and use stitch markers.
@tmckmusic8584Ай бұрын
You can also try the alternating front post/back post double crochet method all the way around for a wrist band... no connecting as you go.

Can i ask, if i go down half a hook size for the Squares do i need to go another half down for the ribbing? Like for a large size 3.5 hook and 3 for large and 3 hook and 2.5 for medium? Thank you.

It seems as though you got tired of doing it so you just barely explained, pointed with your hook here and there and showed the final product. I'm gonna laugh.. lol.. but still say: That's Messed Up.
