In my opinion, this is the best possible video format. You can focus on the plays during the game and then calmly explain how you see these spots. It's been a long time since I've seen someone show their results right away and then explain plays at such a level. Thanks for this knowledge, I will definitely watch all your videos. For my part, I'd love to see footage of how you play against 3bets, especially out of position. What hands do you call, what hands do you 4bet and what hands do you just fold because I personally think certain categories of hands can do any of these actions and I'm curious what a professional like You does with them. Greetings from Poland:)
@playitsmartpoker
@playitsmartpoker Жыл бұрын
thank you my friend, I will certainly talk about 3bet oop as they come up in future videos, I think its one of the hardest spots in the game tree to play well ( 3betpotoop). A general tip for you to increase your win rate in these spots is you're likely overcalling. hands like KQs AJs 66-99 look great on paper, but they have a tough time realizing their equity oop as a human vs a good player in pos with the uncapped range and initiative

sick graphs, You are a master. Subscribed.Could you give advices and tips for smaller stakes? What is the difference stake by stake overall?
@playitsmartpoker
@playitsmartpoker Жыл бұрын
Sure, for smaller stakes I would first look at some preflop charts to get your ranges down. Preflop is not the sexiest street but a ton of money is made or lost there. Then I would focus on picking 1 flop size and learn how to play those nodes. I would say the general theme when moving up stake by stake is the regulars will be slightly better on average. They will protect their ranges better and put pressure on yours more. I would also say as you move up, the regulars have a better understanding of preflop and their own general strategies

Hey Avery, are you always cold 4 betting 8s in that spot or are you randomizing? If he 5 bets are you calling with a quarter of your stack invested? Also with the 7s on the paired board if he calls turn are you always shutting down river ?
@playitsmartpoker
@playitsmartpoker Жыл бұрын
Hey Jordan, 99 is pure cold 4bet in those spots for me but 88 i'll 4bet depending on who the small blind is/ how aggressive I think their 3bet range is. Tight fish or fish reg you can just fold 88. The more aggro regs who 3bet hands like j9s q9s pure kjo all suited Ax etc the more pure cold 4betting a hand like 88 makes ev due to their weaker overall range. 88 would be a cold 4bet fold just like a hand like KQs in those positions. Call off 1010 as a default range there. Yes river is generally a shutdown especially since many rivers will be a club or over card. I still will have decent equity in that line since it will go check check and I will still win vs lower pairs and AQo. If I had a hand like 99 I can block rivers again to get target his 88 and 77 but with 77 its too low given undercards are already on the board which would give him a full house. You always want to be thinking when value batting how many and which types of worse hands does my opponent have in spot to call with me with.
@playitsmartpoker
@playitsmartpoker Жыл бұрын
@Josh Black Readless i think 4bet fold should be your standard play here. Not enough opponents are 5 betting lower pairs and AQ A5s type hands. I would rather call off AQs then 88 in that spot as im dead vs 99 1010 jj but my AQS is flipping vs those hands and has better blockers. If you have a read the guy is wild pre and is 5bet bluffing a lot you can start to entertain 4bet calling but I would need very strong reads to make this deviation. :)

If you are defending your BB and have 25% odds to call, and have 29% EQR, is It indiferent to defend as we bring back to us the extra money invested only, but not the BB? Another question: If we defend having 25% odds and 34% EQR, that's +Ev. But we have the cheap price (25% odds) only in pre flop. What do happens when the pot grows and now we have to contribute with 50% of the pot instead of 25% and we are expected to have 29% share of the pot (the equity that we gonna realize)? What If we contributed with over 29% of the money in the pot
@playitsmartpoker

You should break down if a hand is profitable to play street by street by looking at the pot odds and determining if your hand has that equity ( including ev in bluffing/fold equity) re evaluate every street as the ranges get more narrow and bet sizes and change

Hey man great vid. I play midstakes full time, and think this content is very good. Im curious though, the AK hand... It doesnt matter how i model the turn, AK always does better as a call. Even if I make IP stab 80% flop and follow through 80% turn, AK still isnt profitable as a shove (or its breakeven in that extreme, but wins 1bb as a call). What am I not seeing?

@@playitsmartpoker Yeh I mostly agree. I think a lot of players stuck at low stakes have mostly sound strategies but make 2/3 river punts a day (say 10-20bb each) and thats their win rate gone. So I also feel like if you're putting content out with this kinda play / approach, it might be worth mentioning how important those river spots (or generally punting a spot hard) is worth to average Joe's win rate. And therefore how important it is to understand the mechanisms behind a spot as best we can to limit the times we do that. But for those who aren't doing that, there is real value add here so nice work

From watching your video it looks like you don't do much bluff catching. Instead preferring to take the aggressive action. For example that KT XR on T94Q, a solver calls there but would XR a weaker hand like J9o. You also barreled the 77 OTT when a solver always checks on that JJ34 flush complete turn. Would you say your style is more bluffing and less bluff catching?

Hey, man. I just found your channel. Thank you for sharing your insights. Question: what do you think for beginners players the idea of using a simplified strategy based on MDA with a lot of cbet range, check range, overbluff 3/4 pot against checks, overfold against multiple streets bets and overcall against discontinuous action? I'm a recreational-reg player and I'd love to have a simple framework/strategy that I can just execute and win at micro/lower stakes. Thoughts about that?
@playitsmartpoker
@playitsmartpoker Жыл бұрын
Hey man thanks for the comment. That's actually exactly what I would suggest. Lots of simplified strategies basically range betting or range checking depending on who has the equity advantage on different board textures. It makes things much easier for you to navigate your range on different boards when you know you have 100 percent of your range. It also has added ev because you get more reps in playing your ranges this way as opposed to splitting your range often. You can crush midstakes playing range bets or checks assuming you learn how to play the turns and rivers well. I would also recommend playing zoom ( but not too many tables) while you're building your strategy as its perfect for getting your reps in and learning quickly how those range bet or check spots play out in reality against the pool. Good luck!

@@playitsmartpokerThank you very much for the reply. I'm sorry if I'm exaggerating, but I'm going to take the liberty of asking two more questions. In case you can't answer, don't worry because I totally understand. 1. As a weaker player, I don't have the experience/knowledge to know the best bet sizes to use on turns/rivers. Do you think I can win at lower stakes if I always use the static 3/4 pot bet size with my bluffs and values on turns/rivers? I know for professionals this is clearly horrible, but is it enough for me? As I said before, I really want to have a simple framework that I can just execute, that's why I'm asking that. 2. Besides flop simplification and overbluffs/overfolds/overcalls on turns/rivers, do you think I can adapt and play 4bet/fold vs 3bet (with the exception of SBxBB)?
@playitsmartpoker
@playitsmartpoker Жыл бұрын
@@ghjk5827Firstly dont call yourself a weaker player. I'm going to do a video in the future talking about confidence in poker and how that effects win rates drastically. You can think of yourself as a newer player who is figuring out his game. 1- Yes you can certainly beat low stakes games with 3/4 only on turns and rivers in SRP ( assuming you're betting a reasonable range). I would change that size to 1/2 pot only size in 3bet pots which will perform better then 3/4 since it will allow you to bet hands way more often both as bluffs and value and stack to pot ratio is much smaller. Don't worry about adding multiple sizings too early. Much more important to just learn how to play good ranges. The only low hanging fruit exception/exploit I would add is that if you can identify a very loose calling station player, I would look to ignore your 1 sizing rule and bet pot for value. 2- Absolutely- I would actually recommend that. Makes your game tree smaller so you get more proficient in 4 bet pots and players tend to overfold to 4bets so you will be exploiting the vast majority of them pre. 4 bet or fold is a very powerful strategy even at mid/high stakes when executed well :)
