Florian - As a part 2 to this, can you show how and where to hit for long range masse's. Ie... say the cue ball is at one end of the table and you have to go around a ball that's 3-4 diamonds away and have the cue then swerve after passing that ball to hit the object ball you desire. I have done a number of these in the past but inevitably they were more luck.... or rather the result of understanding the concept but where my execution was guesswork. Thanks as always for your great instruction!

For that u just need to not elevate as much cuz the more u elevate, the more the ball will curve

Thumbs up!! Aiming is defined, yet not explained well. Massé shots are used & needed when the cue ball is away from the rail; leading to inquiries about Massé shots from all areas of the table. Is it a break/jump stick which is being used? Grip is one thing noted. Do arm &/or wrist movement differ from (for example) draw or power shots? Practice remains key to all sports! A video on practice drills may help a players knowledge of progression.

I read once that to get really extreme masse' shots, sometimes the table is sprayed with silicone lubricant to allow for faster initial spin. Is that accurate? I realize that it would screw up the equipment for a standard game, but I was just curious.

totally useless shot. if you know your angles then you never need a masse. how many times have you seen pro players use this? less than 0.5% of the time; ergo USELESS shot. good for utube videos i guess, but won’t win you pool or snooker matches. besides, if you can’t hit correct doubles, you have no business even watching masse shots. talk about running before you can walk!
