I use the same method, but I spray over them with matte clear coat after. Keeps the marker from transferring to the hands, and gives a nice real metal look to everything.

Yes, it’s just a silver version of a Sharpie. So, like a sharpie, as long as you don’t accidentally wipe it off shortly after applying, it should stay on there pretty permanently. Although if the item is handled a lot, it will likely eventually run off. Perhaps putting a clear coat of paint over top could help.
