Why did you use a straight stitch sewing machine instead of a serger directly? Is it because the pattern is loose? Or is it because the material used? Thank you so much for the nice project again! 😊
@ateliersaison3 ай бұрын
Some people only have a straight stitch sewing machine and a single-needle serger machine. To ensure that even those with this setup can make T-shirts, we’ve adjusted the seam allowances in the patterns and created a video tutorial. Of course, it’s more common to sew knit fabrics using a two-needle serger machine and a coverstitch machine. We also have a video demonstrating that method, so we hope you find it helpful. @@franckbeth6473 I had the same thought, but if I'm not mistaken, I think she showed us her spool of thread that was stretchable. I did not see the machine run a zig zag stitch. If she did use a stretchable thread, then that would make perfect sense for the straight stitch.

I love watching you immaculate technique. But seeing the newspaper used as a (non slippery?) cutting mat gives me shivers. If I did this with our regular paper it wil not only stain my hands but also ruin my fabric. Unles the paper was steam ironed beforehand as well 😅
@ateliersaison3 ай бұрын
Yes, depending on the fabric, the dirt and ink from the newspaper may transfer to the fabric. For that reason, it is better to use special thin paper. Thank you!
@sbaumgartner98482 ай бұрын
Thanks for pointing that out. Yes I thought that was interesting and it makes sense. We know to use tissue paper for fabrics like georgette, silk, etc. but I hadn't thought of knits.

I found a lot to observe in this seemingly simple project. 1) I have never acknowledged before the amount of work that goes into how the pattern is designed, how to optimally lay the pattern out for cutting so that the sewist knows how wide a seam allowance to sew, what seams to back tack, what order to sew in, what machine/thread to use, when and how much steam and pressure to use, etc. 2) I would have liked to have seen a close up of the final garment where the sewist had made a mistake in the seam width so unpicked it and moved the stitching line over. After final pressing did the needle holes disappear given this was a woven stretch fabric? 3) The sewist used a purple disappearing ink pen to mark key points on the collar band. I didn't see them when she prepared to sew the band on. She didn't divide the band so each section matched a section of the neckline. We home sewists don't have the skills to distribute the band evenly around the neckband without doing this. 4) I liked the way the seam on the band is sewn about 1" away from one shoulder seam. As you can tell I am a huge fan of your channel.

Thank you for your many wonderful comment!! I forgot to show the footage of the needle marks left from redoing the hem stitching, but there are just a few minor marks left. However, they are barely noticeable unless you look closely, so I'll consider it a pass😋

Hey, great content ans wonderful craftsmanship, I wanted to ask why you dident cut the shirt front and back panels on the fold
@ateliersaison2 ай бұрын
Thank you for joining the membership!! We don't fold the symmetrical panels in half at the crease because cutting fabric in a single layer, rather than overlapping, results in an accurate cut. We place great importance on the grain line of the fabric. The areas where the fabric is folded tend to cause distortion. Therefore, we don't create our patterns in a folded state (along the centerline of symmetry), meaning we don't make patterns in half of their original form.

flawless. btw what are the pink strips made from? where one can buy them? also... why do you use this... "flat" plastic under half of the foot while you are sewing? so the fabric slides smoothly? TIA
@ateliersaison3 ай бұрын
The pink tape is made of urethane foam with a sticky surface. It is very useful as a guideline for stitching. This is only sold at special stores in Japan, and unfortunately cannot be purchased from overseas. The white strap is a plastic strapping band and often used for packing work. In areas with thickness, there may be unevenness at the presser foot, causing the pressure and feed teeth to be less stable than usual. To increase the pressure and stabilize it, we intentionally use this strapping band to raise the height of the presser foot. This is also useful for straight guide line. Thank you.

@sbaumgartner98482 ай бұрын
The pattern weights are for professional use and are very expensive. I use heavy washers from Home Depot. They aren't as heavy but they work. You could likely buy the professional ones from suppliers in the USA. I saw them at a professional sewing supply store in Hong Kong and they could ship them to you.
