Corn on the cob is the perfect summer food but it's so messy when you try to cut the kernels off. They fly everywhere. Here's an easy way to cut the corn off the cob without making a mess. Place a large wide bowl on a damp kitchen towel so that it doesn't slide around. Next, fold a paper towel into fourths and place it inside the bowl. It'll help stabilize the cob so that it doesn't shift around. Stand an ear of corn up on the paper towel and using a short knife cut the kernels off from top to bottom, rotating the cob as you're done with each section to get to the next. The kernels will fall right off into the bowl. If you're working with more than one ear of corn, just adjust the paper towel as needed so that it's always sitting on top of the pile of corn kernels. If you do it this way your counter and floors will remain corn free, plus the corns already sitting in a bowl and ready to go into a delicious summer salad, corn bread, saute, or soup.

I got an easy method that lots of people already know. Get a single chopstick or skewer and stick it through the middle of the corn cob. Then hold on to chopstick or skewer and cut straight down corn like shown in the video. This will keep your hands clean and prevent and possible cuts from holding the corn with your hand

Just did 4 ears your way - great. I used the plastic cover from my mixing bowl under the bowl, and I found that a serated tomato knife did a great job- short enough but super sharp.

Perfect! Just what I needed! I would just add, if you notice you didn't get the corn cut all the way down to the bottom of the cob, it seems easier to turn it upside down and cut the rest from the top.

if you own a bundt cake tin, the hole in the middle is perfect for standing your corn up on (no slipping!), when you cut the corn, it falls right into the cake tin. works perfectly!

Maybe cut the end of the cob on a slight angle and use either a silicone bowl or put a (clean) silicone pot holder (or something similar) in the bottom of the bowl to prevent slipping.

obviously you've never been to mexico where we put mexican creme ground cojito cheese and chili powder on STEAMED corn. the corn is also served on a thick skewer or cut off the cob for the little ones. this is far superior to pretty much anything I've had in america besides this creamed corn with butter and cheddar i had once.

this is wrong, use a big knife and use the whole blade as you cut downwards, in a swiping motion (like how you hone a knife), check out jacques pepin's tip about this. if you do it like it was done in the video (minus the bowl) you're pressing and popping the kernels out instead of them naturally falling after a good cut.

OR, you could buy your corn frozen or in a can, it would be fresher and in the case of the can, already cooked and you wouldn't waste a bunch of it and get corn silk all in your business like you did. Even better you could just eat it off the damn cob like a normal human being. The only people I know who cut corn off of a cob have false teeth. They are my grandparents. They're 80+.
