This method is very effective, i tried it myself. Trimming the curls dry is good for me since my hair shrinks. With this method my curls felt right where i wanted them.

I am a hairdresser and have read "curly girl" and followed everything that she says about cutting curly hair and it has been wonderful. I am completely "known" for being able to cut curly hair, and it is soooooooo simple. At least 30% of my clientele now is curly and it's great.

I spent years begging stylist, please don't cut my hair wet, I have maximum shrinkage and if you cut it wet its going to be way too short once its dry. I'm glad someone made a technique out of dry cutting hair!

I've actually found a hair stylist who does this with my hair 6 months ago and It made a big difference in my hair! I hated my hair before but since then I've grow to like it. I love the product too but I can't afford them yet so I stuck wit the cheaper products. Anyways, its such a relief that I can find someone who knows how to deal with curly hair.. i wish i found my stylist sooner.

I really wish Deva stylists would get some educators and teach around in beauty schools, or at least SOMEONE that knows how to actually cut curly hair! All the instructors tell us to make curly hair DRENCHED before you cut it, and that is obviously not gonna turn out good at all! (sad part is, that they've been cutting hair a REAL long time, and one has a salon in her house even! )

That was great. I was cutting hair today at school. The student volunteer had curly hair, highly texturized with a razor (she did it herself) that had grown out and she wanted an A line graduated style. We discussed her hair and it's behavior. I shampooed and conditioned it because it had been tinted brown and had recently been died electric blue in streaks on the side. I wanted to cut it after it had dried, to see where the hair would lay, and then layer it to keep it from being bushy.

@girlzrock44 She's making a couple of key points: 1) Curly Hair should be cut dry because a) we wear it dry, not wet, b) wet hair has a different shape than dry hair, and c) because curly hair shrinks so much when drying 2) Curly-heads shouldn't use sodium-based products (MOST shampoos are sodium based) because they strip and dry the hair. Your hair then gets HUGE because it's expanding into the air trying to grab moisture. She recommends using "No-Poo" products that don't have sodium.

@SydellexX I've heard that if when shorter your hair curls more, then you must have thin hair because when it's longer the weight of your hair makes your hair less curly. It's just the way your hair is, i guess.

I just cut my own hair.....dry....after seeing this video. I doubt if I will ever pay to have my hair cut again. Cutting it into a shape that flatters my head and face was so easy. My whole life I've warned hairdressers that my hair shrinks up alot once it dries but it's like I'm talking to a wall. Result: hair so short that I want to cry on my way home and for the next several weeks. No more.

The problem with curly hair is that not enough people know how to cut it. Ive seen sooooo many people get haircuts from people who only know how to cut straight hair and they totally screw it up. Any stylists who tells you cutting both types of hair is the same, curly heads stay away.

@queenrosesblue12 жыл бұрын
@cpionk313 Strands I want to stay long I only trim, so they're less wispy. The sides and back of my hair I layer more for volume. I usually try to cut with a slight diagonal angle, so it looks more natural and you don't get that chopped look. NEVER cut big locks at once, use small sections and gradually increase the amount for subtle layers. When curly hair is dry you can see how the curls rest, and that's how you know where to cut; don't cut too much, your hair will shorten up after a shower!
@nicolemrn111 жыл бұрын

@mybrownb i "straighten" my curly hair because it's way too short for it to look good, if i air dry it just looks bad also because i have a higher forehead. Im gonna wait for it to grow long and then i'll wear it naturally.

well i dont live in the U.S, so i know not many hair stylist know this technique, i have like a mixture or wavy and boticelly curls, down to my waist, and i cut my hair every 6 months or so, but i always ask the stylist to cut just a little bit of my ends in a V shape but not in layers, because if i want to wear it straight at least it would look like a V and not like i let a child cut my hair like crazy. I dont like to cut my hair too short because then it looks way too triangular shaped.
@sallygiancanna43009 жыл бұрын
Would you say the same goes for permed hair? I am fighting with stylists to get a good cut after all that money and always coming home to a bad cut. Thank god it is usually too long but this last time she butchered it.
@kristylee63149 жыл бұрын
Yes it would be the same, because it's a permanent curl, whether natural or chemical. So you should find a stylist who is trained to cut curly hair ( the best is to find a stylist who has curly hair herself, whether permed or natural) and go in with your hair styled the way you like and have them cut it, or if you don't know how to style it yet then have them wash you set you up for a natural style via scrunched up and under a hooded dryer. Then once it is dry she would be able to see the natural state of the curls and see what should be trimmed. And that would be it! (: Hope that helped! I should know, I have naturally curly hair, and a licensed hairstylist (;

Have a consultation first when you call and they set you up with someone who supposedly knows how to cut curly hair and ask them what techniques they use and what classes they have taken. Ask as many questions as you can, even if they get irritated. It's better than ending up with a bad haircut. Do your research so you know if they are just trying to blow smoke up your arse.
