This was perfect. I'll get the wood cut this week before it gets cold.

Just came here to find out standard firewood length in Australia. So 30-40cm? I'll be cutting my rounds to this size and then use a log splitter, never seen 1m lengths then quarter cut with a chainsaw, seems like a way for Stihl to make money from chainsaw being overused and needing parts/repairs etc?

who cuts firewood into quarters? wouldn't it be better to use a ripping chain for that anyway?
@jasonsilberman52405 күн бұрын
Only time I noodle rounds is a big crotch or narly wood before it goes thru the splitter. Straight grain is hand slit because it's faster than a hydraulic splitter.

What kind of saw horse is that?
@michaelkearney55624 жыл бұрын
Too elaborate altogether! What is the need in quartering logs, in order to put them up on a saw horse to be cut again. Cut the stuff into blocks and split with a maul. Another point: at 00:38, come up from underneath with a pushing chain - it's quicker and easier. I suspect that's what Brad would do in real life

You can cut logs to 1m then split them with a wedge super easy then. Buck into small pieces

Excellent video! Why so many crying grown men. He cut so it can stacked efficient and same length. Each piece of wood look the same. Good job I'm going to congratulate not chainsaw hate.

So it’s more how to make aesthetically pleasing firewood? I split with a wood splitter, takes much less time.
@beardoggin89635 жыл бұрын
Well that was different.... Australian wood must just be impossible to split. In the US we cut our logs to stove length then split it either with a hydraulic ram or an 8 pound splitting Maul...
@HughThorneycroft4 жыл бұрын
can confirm australian hardwoods are absolutely killer to cut into round and split with a maul
@exxr4 жыл бұрын
Hugh Thorneycroft Yeah it's true but I don't think anyone saws logs into quarters like that, just use a 30ton splitter. Or it's common to buy the firewood already split.

This is a perfect representation of how Aussie don’t cut wood
@troymeredith95283 жыл бұрын
Australian hard woods are hard to split ,usually try and split it while it’s still green ,but different types will split easier when dry .but I don’t know to many bushies here in Australia that would rip it ,un less it was a knot or a V section ,then I would rip it ,but do it as I cut to size.JMO.

That seems like a great way to dull your chainsaw blade the fastest. Ehh I would rather split with a mull, axe, or wood splitter, saving my chain. But to each their own.
