Thanks Cliff for introducing me to this cut. I think I fancy it over the round brilliant. It is close.

Hi Ricky, this design seems to give a little more return than the standard round brilliant.

Wonderful gem Cliff. Always wonderful to see you cut. I should have some sunstones to share fairly soon 😊.

Thanks Tam. I think you would enjoy faceting this design. Better done on gem like Topaz or Zircon, or gem with a high RI.
@tamwolf205 жыл бұрын
Cliff I will definitely give it a shot. I just finished a nice smokey quartz that turned out to have a bit of a purplish hue to it. It feels good to finally be back to cutting again.

Very nice video, Cliff. I watched the reveal three times just to marvel at the effects from the high crown and the small culet facets (P3). The finished product is amazing. Thanks much for taking the time to share your skills with the world.
@VintageTimeGems5 жыл бұрын
This design is very typical of Australian designs. We really go for the high crown and the small table. It pretty much the main focal point at many Aussie Gem clubs that faceted gems look better with smaller tables. But this concept is not always possible.

I like the fire of this cut. Thank you. A few videos back you were given some new adhesives to try. But by the looks of it, you've gone back to the epoxy. Any reasons why?

I'm saving the super glue for the cabochons I make at the gem club. The super glue is a lot stronger and I use more pressure on larger grinding wheels for cabs.

Thank you Cliff for your videos! I do have a couple of questions though. I’m just sort of dipping my toes in the water of the Lapidary world.Like you it would be a past time not a money making venture.I’ve looked at some basic polishing tables,I’ve found one that’s under 300$. Is it a worthwhile investment or should I save for some more expensive? Where do you get your DOB materials( The rods and glues )? Do have any videos that cover the basics of proper tool usage?( How to mount a stone on a dob, how to set up and configure your angles on the grinder for faceting )? My wife and girls have done a bunch of rock hounding trips around and now I have a pretty good supply of rough stones and I would like to start building my skills to bring out the potential in these incredible gems.
@VintageTimeGems5 жыл бұрын
I would buy a good second hand machine. One that is manufactured in the country you live in. Dop sticks should come with the machine, plus the transfer block and index wheels. I buy my glues off Ebay.
@CalMeachum765 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the helpful information , I’ll start checking EBay. I appreciate the info and please keep making videos.

I love watching your channel!!!! I was noticing the thickness of the girdle. I didn't think that you liked to cut them so thick? Is that just because the pattern called for a thick girdle?
@VintageTimeGems5 жыл бұрын
I prefer a thinner girdle. I wish to set this gem and a thinner girdle can crack while setting. Also the size of the prong overhang is too much if the girdle is thinner.
