Let me start by saying I’ve only watched your video one time. I was lost at the very beginning just trying to figure out how to measure the gaps you point out. However, you spoke with confidence and knew exactly what you were doing so I will trust you know what you’re talking about and will watch the video over and over, till I get it.

Thank you for making all of those mockups for just one video. Seeing the changes on an actual body makes all the difference. I'm on my 4th bodice block revision now and it takes so much work. I'm excited to follow your video once I finally get to the contouring stage

Thank you for sharing this video tutorial. It is well presented and interesting to follow! And I learned so much about the contouring process - had some idea that the gapping had to be removed but aside from inserting darts everywhere on my bodice fabric, I didn't know how to adjust it out of the pattern. Will have to practise as you make it look easy, but I can see that if any changes cross any of the contour guide lines that the adjustments will have to be made for a proper fit.

That still feels like rocket science to me, but thanks anyway! All of your before and after pics showed very clearly the changes in the fitting! I just sewed a zero waste pattern, which is basically just squares, and that’s probably why the fit isn’t that great.😅
@_nuriamo Жыл бұрын
Right?? I had to mess up a couple of necklines to just sit down and think why the fit wasn’t good… this made so much sense when I discovered it 😂 I’m curious to know if this would also be relevant for easy fitting blocks, because if it isn’t then the zero waste patterns would work better for those shapes!! Thank you 🥰

Hi there, thanks for this video. My only issue is my neckline contour dart is quite wide at the top unlike your example where it gets quite thin at the top. I have a hollow part in the top middle of my chest compared to my bust size which might be making this issue? I hope the technique will still work :|

Just going through all these, which now that i understand, are super helpful. I was wondering though re the GL 4/ empire measurements: do we half the measurement like with GL5 Bust or is the measured distance to be applied twice, on either side once?
@_nuriamo3 ай бұрын

@_nuriamo9 ай бұрын
Ohh I’m sorry I just saw this comment!! I wanted to show you that the back shoulder dart can be moved either to the neck or to the armhole in case you want to get rid of it when cutting the neckline, it’s still a weird one for me to understand but I’ll try and do another video JUST on darts to show it better☺️

Omg it’s been a long time since i was looking for any video to explain this ! , I really need to know , if iam going to make a dress for someone and I have her Measurements the waist and hip and length and chest but she is not with me to take these specific measurements for contour , and I want to make the dress well fit to her , what can I do ? Is there any standard measurements for this ?, thank you so much 💞💞
@_nuriamo7 ай бұрын
Thank yooou☺️ It’s always so difficult to guess when you don’t have the person there… I add the standard measurements at the bottom of the screen when I explain them (it’s a bit difficult to see). What I would advice is to follow those and if she has a big bust I would probably make the 4. Empire and 5.Busts a little bit bigger than standard! Let me know how it goes🙊
@vl28094 ай бұрын
This was helpful! But how on earth did you measure the differences? The best i could do whilst putting my ruler in all the places is... just... sort of guess? I could not figure out how to use a second ruler to get a precise number. Also, the bust circumference was super confusing. Are we pretending that boobs are perfectly circular? If so, my circumference goes off my mockup 😂😂😂 would be super helpful if you could indicate which part of the bust (upper bust, side boob, etc.) we need.
@_nuriamo4 ай бұрын
I’m glad it helped☺️ And I agree, some of them are very confusing!! What I did was start with the standard measurements and compare. I found that most of them were similar except for the bust that was bigger, and every time I create a design, I test it first just in case… for example I noticed that the dart at the armhole should have been bigger for my body! And for the circumference, I think the most important thing is the under part, that’s what’s going to change the pattern the most so focus on that one!! I only use it as a guide to know how low to create my necklines to still be covered🙈 I hope it’s a little bit more clear!!

can you please say the measurements of the paper pattern so i can have mini patterns to try on
@_nuriamo4 ай бұрын
Heey, the mini pattern is done at 1:4 scale, so it follows my own measurements. I don’t have it anymore but it was approximatelly: - Centre front: 9cm - Front waist: 7cm - Front side seam: 5cm - Front shoulder: 3.5cm - Front dart: 2cm - Centre back: 10cm - Back waist: 6cm - Back side seam: 5cm - Back shoulder: 4cm - Back shoulder dart: 0.5cm - Back waist dart: 1cm Hope it helps☺️

U didn't explain why the lines are certain bigger than the others and why when going through thw guidelines
@_nuriamo6 ай бұрын
I’m so sorry it wasn’t clear!! The guidelines are the lines that connect rotating points (bust to shoulder for example) and below those lines there’s normally a little hole. Depending on how big this “hole” is, the bigger the guideline is. I hope it’s more clear now☺️
@kennysumi59069 ай бұрын
Hi ,one confusion is that both your darts (waist and shoulder reaches the apex) Whereas ,we keep 1" away from apex.Kindly clear my confusion.❤
@_nuriamo9 ай бұрын
Heey! If I understand it correctly, you should keep 1” away from the apex when sewing the darts because otherwise the bust would look like a cone. But when rotating the darts (during drafting instead of sewing), the “real” point sits on the bust line. To find this point you just have to draw a line through the center of your dart, passing the dart ege until it crosses the bust line ☺️ I hope it’s usefull!!
@kennysumi59069 ай бұрын
@@_nuriamo thank you so much.I tried doing the contour for a heart shaped neckline which came out good,but the empire waist dart result was a lil out of proportion.I don't know where I went wrong.Should we smooth our darts at that empire waist area?
@_nuriamo9 ай бұрын
I'm so happy you tried!!! I'm not sure what went wrong sometimes when the dart is too big it looks weird... try finishing your dart 1 cm before the bust point!! I'll make a video about moving darts whenever I have time, that might be useful😄@@kennysumi5906
