The small Stihl MS 180 chainsaw handles even fairly large logs.

Thank You. Yes, I got a good chainsaw. It's been in service for over 10 years with no problems. the main thing is to love the instrument and take care of it.

Very impressive for a small saw. Is that a 30 cm bar, Martin? What chain do you have on it? Picco mini? Picco? .325? Whatever it is it is razor sharp!

just bought yesterday. Out of the box, struggles to cut 2" oak branch! Slinging oil everywhere. What am I doing wrong? Do I need a better blade?

My Stihl MS 180 is very old, over 10 years old, it has good performance for its class. This suggests that they used to produce better Stihl chainsaws. I don't trust the new 180 models. The new MC-180s even have lower RPMs than the old 180s. By ear, they do not gain maximum speed as sharply as the old MS-180s do.

@@martinsworkshop1765 That’s discouraging. Very frustrated.

@@formerfuzz This is a subjective opinion, I do not approve, but as for me, these saws did better before. It is possible that the chainsaw needs to be properly run-in until the piston group "grinds" properly, with time there may be an increase in power. But it is advisable to “run in” a new chainsaw in a gentle mode.

@@martinsworkshop1765 New info. Apparently inadvertently I contacted the ground dulling the blade. The dealer replaced it and demonstrated it on a log. All seems better now. I’ll get back out after it dries out some. Thx

@@formerfuzz Yes, chainsaw chains blunt instantly. you need to be careful with this, you can’t even saw branches that have dirt on them, it’s better to remove dirt or gravel dust from a branch / log, and then start sawing.
