How to cut wood for woodturning !!

I get a great stock of eucalyptus wood so need to cut them i share wit you my technique ! I hope you find it interesting ! I also wait for your respond if you like to make an unboxing to Tormek T8 !

I liked this video because it was very informative. As we know when a Woodturner has the opportunity to acquire free wood the work involved is well worth the effort. What a wonderful celebration your village has. And who doesn't like to fly a kite? I'm 64 and I love to fly kites, must be the kid in me!!! Really interesting how you select and cut blanks. I am expecting teak wood sometime soon and this will help. Eucolyptus wood is very beautiful (and hard) Ευχαριστώ for sharing Kostas. Loved how you were able to fold that blade so easily . I've been woodworking for 40 years and for some reason that is the only issue I have IF I am thinking about it. Sometimes hard not to do when you have 30 students watching you. Great video for those who have questions about how to cut the log stumps to get the best/most out it. Especially if you have to pay for the wood. Keep up the great work.

Hahahahhahaha ! You know how I learn ! When I was child I have an addiction to fold the car window shadow makers ! Those work exactly the same way !!! So I have done this thousands times and was really easy after to do it in bigger size ! Are you teaching woodwork ! Wow ! Schools like that have deasapear from Greece from 1975 !! You are very lucky !!!

Kostas - this was a very exciting video. When you jumped when someone disturbed you while working with the band saw I almost cried. Band saws are very dangerous tools. I found your technique for getting the most usable wood with as little waste as possible fascinating. Here in Indiana USA most of the woodworkers I know use kilns to dry their wood. It is faster and there is less cracking. But we both know that the cracks make the wood beautiful and unique. Thank you for including the video of the festival. Is it like Lent? I enjoy fish and seafood especially when it is very fresh and baked or broiled. Kites flying season is here now in Indiana but mostly it is only for younger people, kids and teenagers. your kite looks well used and well loved. Take care and be safe.

Hello Melody ! I have no kiln but maybe one day built one ! I need other tools first and a great remake of my workshop ! I was sad about the video of the festival because KZbin find that the traditional music was under personal belonging of a maker so I change the music for have no problems ! I'm not the only one who recognized the danger in not dropping the guard on the blade when you finished making the tall cuts. If you watch the video again, also note how the blade bends without the support which makes it more likely to break outside the enclosure. It would have been interesting to get a video of the kites with your drone from their perspective looking down on the people. This is a good video since so much of your time does not involve turning the pieces. Good preparation on any project is most of the work in creating a good piece.

Although I would have made some different decisions you did a great job of getting the logs processed. Now they can cure and be ready to turn. Too many people leave the logs sit as full rounds and it takes much longer to dry and is harder to process. Good job.

Thanks for the fine job showing how to cut blanks. But PLEASE lower your bandsaw guard to just an inch or so above the wood after you've cut the tall log.

This is true is mistake of me that I always do but I always hurry lol ! I like to change the system that aloud me to low and hight the bandsaw ! Because this bandsaw is made in 70's and the system that has at the moment is really slow !!! Thanks again for your advice my friend !!!

Good Morning.I'm just back from vacation and usually the first day is full of work of course and not the best day. But today I got the hint for a new video from you and so I decided to start the day with your video and that was a good decision. You have a lot of luck: so much beautiful wood and all for nothing. And so much work to cut the treasure correctly. Is Eucalyptus actually a hard or rather soft wood? I like it very much that you know from the beginning what you will do with the wood and how accurately everything is cut and then catalogued. Congratulations. Unfortunately I don't have a band-saw, I don't have room and with a sabre saw and a jigsaw you can't get far. But I'll look at the tips again when I've made room in my garage for a reasonable band saw, because I can already see that this will be my next purchase. I didn't understand something. You want us to be there unpacking the T8. I love to do that, but how do I register? Is this a live event? Best regards to Kefalonia

Do you treat the cut wood with Anchorseal (wax), so that no cracks occur in the wood?

No brother ! What I done is after cut I pute them in shadow and I throw on the dry dust ! Work for me ! But my climate in Greece have huge deference thanks yours ! But eucalyptus if you take of all the centers of the wood will no crack !!

Κώστα καλημέρα ρωτάω εσένα γιατί αν κρίνω από τη δουλειά που εχεις κάνει με αυτά τα ξύλα πιστεύω ότι είσαι το καταλληλότερο άτομο για να με συμβουλέψει . Περιληπτικά για να μη σε κουράσω έχω έναν έινχελ τορνο150€ αν αρκεστεις σε κουταλάκια μελιού είσαι εντάξει έβαλα μεγάλα ξύλα 10 17 κιλά και διαλύθηκε.... Κάνω αρκετά καλή δουλειά με τον τόρνο και σκοπεύω να πάρω τον Holzman 510f (επειδή είμαι άσχετος και δε θέλω να ξαναλέω του χρόνου ότι θέλω μεγαλύτερο η ότι αυτός με δεσμεύει) πιστεύεις ότι είναι καλός τόρνος για να ξοδέψω 650€ χορια τσοκ 250€ η ξέρεις κάτι άλο καλύτερο να μου προτείνεις η να με συμβουλέψεις να πάρω.

Και κατι ακόμα που ξέχασα όταν φτιάχνω βάζα η μπολ από κορμό περίπου κομμένο 1 μήνα της επόμενες μέρες μου σπάει ραγίζει από παντού. Δε θέλω να βάζω βερνίκια φαινεται ψευτικικο εσύ βάζεις παραφινελεο έχω δει, κάνει μετά να φας από εκεί δεν ειναι επίφοβο να έχει σκορο μέσα η κάτι άλο αν δεν του κάνεις ένα φιλμ με βερνίκι ? Γενικά αν ξέρεις κάτι πάνω σε αυτό δόσε μου κάποιες πληροφορίες ευχαριστώ!
