Here's a tip: When you spend time in your local drum shop trying out cymbals, buy the cymbal from that shop.

I learned a ton from Jojo's Secret Weapon series, so I love hearing his thoughts on cymbals.

first, thanks to Jojo, this video is very useful and informative! Second, I'm not a Sabian guy, but these Anthologies are absolut gorgeous, a class of itself (unfortunately also the price)........

some things i knew, some new tips that seem very useful (e.g. closing one ear and listening with the opposite side from which you are playing). it seems this may be how microphones would pick them up in certain configurations. remarkably well presented considering English is not his native tongue. thanks Sabian and Jojo.

The older Jojo gets, the more he sounds like Christopher Walken.

My favorite drum Shop allows me To bring my cymbals To compare them with the cymbal i am searching for… this is the Best Thing Ever when searching for another cymbal for my cymbal Setup. 😉👍

Some thoughts. Playing cymbals in a music store is always a great experience, although often times there are kids (big and little) in the cymbal room just hitting them because they can. I often buy used equipment, so its hard to really go through the tryout period; thank goodness for KZbin, often I can find someone trying out what it is I am interested in. JJM's comments on stands is true, I'll go one step further: I have yet to find felts that I am satisfied with! Buying used equipment is a WAG, but I have been lucky to have bought instruments that have pleasantly surprised me. Lastly, these Anthology cymbals remind me of Paiste 2oo2's or perhaps something from the Paiste Traditionals family. Bright glassy sound is more in line with the style of music I play.

Jojo Mayer has the body of a 17 year old boy as a 60 (?) year old. How he has accomplished this is nothing short of extraordinary. Probably 55 years of drumming every day.

Y'all don't get it. He is so knowledgeable and experienced that his opinion is actually 50 cents, each. Like... 25 times more important than any other advice you'll get on the subject.

I’ve tried liking the 18” Anthologies but they are just WAYYYY too bright for me, which is weird considering they’re bigger crashes and HHX line.

I always differentiate between the cymbal sounding dry or wet. However, I don’t think that explanation works on the bell. Cool video nonetheless.
