Last year I started my first teaching job. I was so anxious and worked so hard staying long hours after school to prove myself. About this time last year my principal meets with me and says the district determined our school needed to make cuts and since I was the most recent hire, I would be the one leaving. I would still have a job somewhere in the district, but not at that school, and I was devastated, because I was starting to feel comfortable and like I was getting my stride. A few weeks later my principal meets with me again and says that I'm going to be able to stay. After the news came out that I would be leaving a group of teachers went to him and asked him to find a way to keep me on staff, so he pulled some strings so I could stay. It was so incredibly validating that the veteran teachers I had looked up to and gone to for advice the whole year had vouched for me, and I haven't doubted my place at our school since.

i suffered from the "not applying for jobs because felt like I wasn't good enough" for about a year after college, and that was something I saw that was prominently different from me and my boyfriend. but now that I have a job (an amazing job btw, I love it with my whole heart) it makes sense! In the workforce, women have to be the best, because if there is failure, it's always because we're women, not because we're people who are imperfect and make mistakes. There's like a standard that I feel women have to live up to just so they can get to the same table as subpar men who have been given this right for their entire existence.

Betty Tran hmmm interesting 🤔 may i ask what type of field you’re in? (hope this doesn’t sound condescending, just curious for my little theory i’m creating lol) I’m in a heavily male dominated field so I think pressure from that industry and also myself is what got to me
@PatriciaHuffman
@PatriciaHuffman 4 жыл бұрын
Betty Tran hmmmm interesting !! definitely threw a wrench into my theory, but love this new perspective. i definitely put a lot of pressure on myself even though i was very qualified, because it felt like being a minority woman was already a factor working against me. almost as if i’d have to be perfect in everything to even be looked at. i had a lot of experiences like that in college, so there are many factors. could basically write an essay about this

I cured my self doubt with having the lowest expectations of myself. I no longer go too hard on myself when I fail, I embraced failure when I knew I didn’t do my best. Low expectations prevents disappointment.

Great timing. I just graduated college in graphic design and was really worried about sending my resume and portfolio to employers. I didn't think I would land anything but I sent out my resume to only big companies anyway. I'm glad to say that I landed a pretty good job graphic design job at a major casino in Las Vegas. AND I just bought a condo in Las Vegas as a 23 year old.

This episode could not have come at a more perfect time! I also tend to put people at a pedestal and feel like I don’t deserve to get things because I don’t feel like I’m good enough compared to those around me. I’ve been at my job two years and never feel like I’d be qualified to climb the ladder to a higher position compared to employees who have (even when they’ve barely been there for long enough). I’ve been thinking of applying for a higher position and so far my brain hasn’t convinced that it won’t work out for me. Hopefully I get the position! :)

Just was told “no” from a job I interviewed for, REALLY wanted, and was confident I’d get. For some reason it hit especially hard and was a huge blow to my self esteem. Have been asking myself “why doesn’t anyone want me” and “why am I not good enough” all day - so this video was very needed and a good reminder that we all struggle with self doubt, rejection and failure. It’s necessary and we CAN overcome it.

same. Got rejected 3 times last week by Jobs I was for sure really qualified for and the interview sfelt really good. They even said I was one of the better interviewee's. they already asked me minor contractual stuff (which I didnt really answer) because I know that they sometimes scout to see, who is cheaper to negotiate with. They really let me believe they would hire me and then they came with the lamest excuse ever xD

I’m a firm believer that we sometimes don’t get opportunities because they’re not right for us. Even if you think you would have LOVED that job, maybe they have some sneaky reason they didn’t want you (like the ‘who’s cheaper’ argument) that would have made you have a poor experience in the long run if they had hired you!

"We are the stories we tell ourselves..." you have no idea how sound of a comment that is. I'm always putting myself down (I do a lot of self-deprecation jokingly and on serious notes) to reinforce that something that isn't impossible can be done. Seeing yourself as this micro-sized ant doesn't mean everyone else or thing is a gaint. You are what you see yourself as if you don't try. Even saying this now, I know I will continue to put myself down and that is something that needs working on. If your reading this, don't be afraid to fail after trying. You'll become stronger and gain experience to become better. At least you can say you did it.

You have NO idea how much I needed this! I got laid off from my job two weeks ago (I work in retail and our shop was shutting down after 4 years). So I’ve been doing interviews all week and applying for jobs and I haven’t done the job hunting thing in 4 years, so it felt so nerve wracking and I felt so sure I wasn’t going to get anything I applied to. I’ll definitely have to rethink that now, thank you ladies for always being so inspiring and inspirational! ☺️💕

Imma be honest. I dont hate work bc I'm lazy but it sky rockets my anxiety. Customers, dealing with cash, processing information slower than the average person (prob bc I can't when I'm in those situations), even stupid phone calls. Like my anxiety was so bad that ... I was like if I cant even handle a simple job like this. How will I make it in the world independently. Ever? How will I reach my dreams if I feel I'm not competent enough. So a certain idea or action has always been in the back of my mind but it was passive. Never really actually would do it. I think everyone feels in their lifetime that they want to disappear at times or majority. But anyways my mind slowly over that summer, started to think really itd be easy to swallow all these pills that are of access of in my house. No longer was it distant but like an actual reality to me at this point. So I knew I had to go to therapy and it helped somewhat but didnt exactly have money for more than 3 sessions with my parents plan. Also I never opened up about suicidal thoughts bc I didnt want them to lock me up or notify anyone of such. I had weird experience soon after when those thoughts came to mind. My little brother, he's 18. Not very open with his emotions and etc. He doesnt dream often either. But he said he had a dream about me being gone and just crying and crying. Especially since he never ever told me he loved me. So when he woke up he was gonna tell me soon after but I think I was still sleeping or he went back to sleep simply cause he was tired. But before work when I was putting on my shoes. He told me about his dream and told me he loved me. Which was something really nice to hear in that moment. And I also had nice couple where I was working randomly wanted to pray for me. So I let them pray about my anxieties. So I think I told one friend this but I also just wanted to release what's been bottling up again for me. I'm at university in my junior year and I know I really need to work through this for long time.

As much as I'm all for working hard to get high in the corporate world. I just want to point out that a company is built on a large number of teams and has a lot of inner workings to make a product, let alone perfect a product.... I've been in the tech industry for a long while. So it's kind of weird to hear Boze say - it was all up to her to get everything fixed, a marketing executive? If she's sitting there sorting through developer code to fix the problems, then props to her and I would believe her. But I have rarely ever seen a executive get down and dirty "I'll fix this myself" When something goes wrong, it's a never ending chain of blame. All the way down to the last worker bee =/
@jessjms1181
@jessjms1181 4 жыл бұрын
I think her job was more about communication between all the teams that are doing a hundred things she needs to keep tabs on and know where their at and juggle it all to work in a timeline. She obviously can’t be doing the dirty work because she simply doesn’t have the time. She said it was up to her because her important role was to keep everything going at once. Without her organising the motions, nothing would move forward. Everybody’s job is important.

When you are in high position you have responsibility over everything you overlook. Something goes wrong under your watch, it’s your fault because you should have caught it. Like if a parent is careless and something happens to their child they could’ve prevented, it’s their fault. When the higher higher ups see something wrong their not going to bring the worker up to their office and reprimand them, their going to bring the manager that the worker is under and tell them to fix it.

@@jessjms1181 I doubt its communication with all the teams involved who work on the website, because that would mean she knows all it's inner working. Live nation and ticketmaster are companies that have been around for a while right? I'm pretty sure they have infrastructures of managers for everything. So it's more of communication between her client and the next person who in the chain of command. Micromanaging from the non tech side of it.
