How to deal with traffic police in India | By Ishan [Hindi]
Most of the times the Traffic Cops take us on a ride stating some ridiculously high fines for petty traffic violations, if you know the motor vehicles act, and the fines for various violations , you'd be surprised that many times you'd have paid a higher amount of bribe when the legal fine itself was far too less..
First Step - Get yourself acquainted with the motor vehicles act and the fines for any violation, it is more or less constant across India, but then its better to make a note of the law pertaining to your state.
How does it help to avoid bribe : I was once pulled over for over speeding , and the cop promptly gave me a charge sheet for 300/-, and behind the charge sheet was the data about different violations and their fines. I keep that copy with me in my wallet always.
Example : I was once harassed by a Traffic Cop for taking a U-Turn, when there was not sign saying U-Turn is not allowed at that junction, he started off saying that the fine for this offense was 500/- , and he started threatening me saying he'd have to detain the vehicle, blah..blah..blah.., I took out my wallet, saw the fine for the U-Turn Violation which was 50/- (Back then) and showed the same to him, and asked him to give me a charge sheet, and told him that I'm going to report him for giving false information to public regarding the fines, He shut his mouth and let me go.
Several times when cops try to con me of saying exorbitantly high fines, i always use the data of the Motor Vehicles Act to back me up with the actual fine amounts, and insist the cop to give me a charge sheet with the proper fine, and never once have i paid bribe to them. And I also start recording the conversation on my mobile the minute I'm getting pulled over, so that I can use it as a proof in case I have to take the corrupt cops to the court.
Power of Traffic Cop:
1.Traffic cop is the absolute authority in road. If he gives signal, you are bound to obey them.
2.Traffic cop can demand your RC, DL, Insurance and pollution certificate of the vehicle.
3.S/he can seize the papers, if situation demands so. While impounding, S/he will give a written acknowledgement to the person surrendering the documents.
4.S/he has the power to arrest you, while he is in uniform, if he founds you violating the rules and not obeying his commands.

Very nice posting. I share my experience with you. Once I was traveling with my company car. As per rule of the company the original RC shall be in company. In the car the copy of RC, copy of Insurance certificate and pollution certificate used to remain. I was stopped by the traffic police and he wanted to see the original RC. I explained the problem but he disagreed. I was having my original Driving licence. But he cut the chalan. I paid the money, but when I checked the clause I surprised to see that the section in which chalan was made was for "driving in alcohol ". The fact is I never take alcohal. It was difficult for me to contradict this point after 15 or 20 hours, Can you please tell me where I made mistake.

Yesterday, I parked my bike on a footpath and then went inside a store to buy something. I was in the store for 5 minutes, in that time, the police's people lifted my bike and put in their truck. Later, I went to the police station and the incharge there asked me to pay a fine of Rs. 2200 as I didn't have any documents with me at that time. Hello sir. Thankyou for the information. Sir ji mai ek problem me fasa tha 2 saal pahle, aur gaadi ke paper zabardasti jama kar liye gaye the. Abhi tak maine paper chhudaya nahi. Aap bataye ki agar ham gaadi chala rahe hai aur koi urgent call leni pad jaye to kya kare. Panvel me maine gaadi side lagayi aur call receive kiya. Tab tak ek towing van aaya aur no parking ka challan laga diya. Jiska fine 550 rs. Hai. Aur wo police wala 800 mang raha tha. Bahas to honi hi thi so ho gayi. Aap bataye, jab driver gaadi ke paas maujood hai, gaadi chalu hai, seat belt lagi hui hai to no parking kaisi. Maafi chahunga sir lekin is baare me mujhe jaankari chahiye.

I have a doubt. In USA if a police stops a car without a probable reason, its considered harassment. So if the police stops a car, he should give a reason and give a challan for it. Now in India is it considered harassment if a traffic cop stops a Car for no reason just to check documents or without any reason ? If yes can we force him to give challan take action against him ?

Bhai kuch bhe nahi hota hai, sirf Rs 500/- ka note do or aapko izzat se jaane denge, specially Chandigarh, Haryana and Punjab mein. Agar inki shiqayat ki toh aap per jhoote case daal denge. Ye Government Terrorists hain or inka aap kuch nahi kar sakte.

हमारे एरिया में ट्रैफिक पुलिस कुछ नही करती। ऑटो रिक्शेवाले ओवर सवारी बैठाते है और चालक भी नाबालिक है। पर पुलिस वाले उनका कुछ नही करते। पर अगर कोई बाइक वाला मिलता है तो उसका चालान करते है अगर वो किसी पहुँच वाला निकल गया तो छोड़ देते है। इसकी शिकायत कहा करे।

Sir aaj mera 10,000 ka challan kata, Gurgaon tolltax pr, Reason ye tha ki maine 100Rs ke Sun Shade lagaye huye the, 1 saal ki bacchi thi aage or piche 3 saal ka baccha, Dhoop kafi tez thi isliye lagana pada, Driving side me kuch nhi tha... Sir sirf itna puchna hai ki kya challan banta hai Sun Shade ka ? Delhi traffic or Gurugram traffic police ki website pr sirf Black Film ke liye likha hai.... Last me unhone 10,000 ki jagha 500 lekr mask ka challan kaat diya jo ki maine pahna hua tha... bola isse chota koi challan nhi hota
