Excellent timing! Had a friend text me this week about a job opening in my specialty at an academic hospital within her health system in Dallas, Texas! The wife and I have been pondering what a move would look like across the country should I apply to the position. Family would be the big one for us, we are within 2 hours of family and Chicago, so moving to Dallas where we only know one couple would be a huge change! Cost of living (way higher) and commute (10 min now vs potentially 35-50 min) another! It is very hard as an analytical person to know at some point you have to look at the “soft” (family, friends, atmosphere, “feel”, culture, job satisfaction) reasons/line items vs the “hard” (salary, benefits, climate, budget, CoL, commute, crime)!
@mappedoutmoney3 жыл бұрын
No way! Yeah that’s a tough decision to make for sure and a ton of things to consider! Totally understand the toughness due to family proximity. And definitely a bug change in weather as well! Lots to think through and probably great pros and cons on either side. Best of luck on the decision making!

True to your channel name in making this decision. Ugg... we just up and moved to a Caribbean without ever being here or knowing anything about it. One thing about is moving is that it one of those decisions that is easily undone. You'll like it there. We left Panama City Beach to move to the Caribbean.

My favorite area of the country! When my son got to train at Keesler, I was fortunate to visit often. We would always go to Mobile and Pensacola! You are blessed for sure! When my husband retired from law enforcement, we moved from super hot Arizona to southern Idaho. Very pretty here, and it is exploding with people. When my youngest graduates, I’d like to look at the Gulf Coast but if one of my kids has kids, that may change things...
@mappedoutmoney3 жыл бұрын
Yes! Pensacola is a great. We spent a few weeks there in 2019 and had a great time. We love this area too. But totally understand the desire to be close to family, that's a big reason we're on the East side of the country. Hopefully you can come back and visit at least! Idaho is pretty awesome too though, we love it. Thanks for watching Kendra.

Great topic! I’m contemplating this at age of 63 nearing retirement. Thinking of 55+ retirement community, renting instead of buying. Maybe VaBeach, Charlottesville, Va., just close enough to my daughters & definitely live in slow pace area. I’d like to get away from Northern Va traffic.

New Subscriber....Nice video and LA is a very nice place! Just found your channel a couple days ago and have watched about 12 or so of your YNAB videos the last couple of days. I'm a numbers guy too and you've convinced me I can probably (maybe, I hope, ha ha) figure YNAB out with some trial and error. Two quick YNAB questions if I may please. Once I accomplish the basics and can move around YNAB fairly well, about how much time do you spend on your own YNAB account each week to stay on top of things? Second, do you feel the PC or MAC version of YNAB is better and easier to work with? Thanks so much and I wish you two well! You're well on your way at such a young age.

Did any international options come up in your discussions?
@mappedoutmoney3 жыл бұрын
Not for us because of family. We've got friends who've moved internationally and loved it, but our #1 priority was < 8-hour drive to family in TN. So that helped limit our discussions. We found that setting clear non-negotiables helps you narrow down the decision-making. But definitely a lot of cool places abroad!

So many good tips and reminders! The concept that took me decades to realize is "If I actually *get* most of my check list, who will, by societal default, be in my close community?" That level of privilege (dep on your list) may not lend itself to living amongst a population with any diversity. #bubble😊 (Which may be what some folks want...)
@mappedoutmoney3 жыл бұрын
@@63Lsp Totally right, that's another huge thing to consider and make sure you think through based on your goals and priorities. I think that's a great question that most people don't ask!
@JayJJay1853 жыл бұрын
@@63Lsp Exactly! And it can be a hard one to juggle. I moved to a place based mostly on demographics; multi-cultural, diverse, mixture of socio-economic situations, etc. Downside is there's a lot of crime, and lack of nature. The lack of nature is the thing that's beginning to really get to me, but I love the diverse range of people. So, it's hard to get everything.
