Yes, I kept fighting my space trying to brighten it up. Despite the windows my home is dark, lots of mature trees block the light. So I stopped and just went with it.. painted the small half bath off the kitchen Ocean Storm (rich blue-gray) and put in a large, chunky, gold framed antique oil painting. I hung 120" chocolate velvet drapes in the living room and painted the fireplace wall Greenblack. Created an art wall with photography from travels, all in large black frames. Have fur throws everywhere.. I LOVE my space now, it's cozy and guests always comment on how comfortable my house is. Yummy candles are a must. Love how you describe getting to know yourself and what you love to make your HOME yours...a curated home. I finally feel this year we have accomplished that and its only taken 9 years. Lol and 2 homes but its been so fun and I am thankful to have pieces in my home that were my families. My grandmothers chairs (which I had reupholstered), my grandmothers paintings, my mom's bench, my grandmothers rolling pin, and other things...we are going to be finishing our basement next year and SO excited to design it and decorate that space

Brandy, THANK YOU for these amazing detailed tips! It's like you're in my head! I'm a home decor fanatic. I love to decorate my home and shop the internet for images of what I want in my space. I'd much rather shop for home decor vs anything else. I watch decorating shows and DIY videos but today's 16 minute video with my Girl Brandy was so inspirational and informative. I've been redecorating my home room by room and it's funny, what I initially thought I wanted in my kitchen for instance, evolved to something different but better. Great advice about determining if to go moody or not. Best advice I have found so far in starting the decorating process. It just makes sense. I almost was all farmhouse but waited a year and realized I was not. I love the word patina and all that comes with it!!

Thanks so much Brandy! You have REALLY helped me this past year. I am not in my dream home but in a 2 bedroom apartment that was supposed to be temporary...and then COVID! I have taken a lot of your advise and it has really helped me figure out what i really like vs. things that i tend to lean towards because i see it everywhere. Your style is amazing! Love your vintage pottery especially. I invested in 3 beautiful sizes of them myself at little online shops that i had no idea existed. i'm glad i invested in some unique vintage items instead of mass produced things that everyone has and that will "go out of style." It has made my home more "ME" and i have gotten so many compliments on my style. I am still not sure what my style category is but i feel like i'm getting there. Thanks again!
