HOW TO: DECORATE A TIN with Polymer Clay! Easy, step by step tutorial!

Decorating a box or tin is really easy when you know how! I love decorating things that I can put straight in the oven, its so easy to do and you haven't got to worry about how it bakes!

Tools:
-Scrap clay/any clay
-Tissue blade, craft knife, dotting tools
-Glass beads, glitter, mica powder
Baking Polymer Clay:
UK instructions for baking- it's all in Celsius not Fahrenheit, which is why I don't always quote times & temperatures. I recommend using Polymer Clay packet instructions. However a good tip is to bake no higher than 100 degrees Celsius. It's better to bake at a lower temperature for longer, than higher for shorter.
Larger clay items need longer- always check after 10 mins- sometimes things fall over in the oven & can be rescued at this point. Watch for burning! Especially white as it's quick to burn (don't know why...) and can turn yellow!
Once out of the oven wait for it to cool before thinking it's baked- if it feels soft to touch, you can poke a finger nail in it or a finger print, back in the oven it goes!
Electric ovens work better as the temperature is even, gas oven temperatures fluctuate do not keep a steady temp for baking polymer clay.

That is so pretty!!!!! I love the color. I didn’t realize we could put tin in the oven. I don’t know why I thought that tin under clay would burn. I don’t know why I always thought that.

Hey! Thanks for watching & thank you! I put everything in the oven directly if I can get away with it! I always bake at a lower temp for longer in the oven, too. Just lately, I have also been turning off the oven & letting it cool inside, too 😁 both things ensure it doesn't burn or cool down too quickly 🥰

I think they are called cabochons? But for the life of me, I can't say it! Thanks for the tips on UV resin, I've got a nail lamp, going to try it out soon & film it at the same time! @@GailJonesPolymerClay the same as you would do it with glass, I cut the tube in two put clay on and bake, you need to put a bottom on one of them :) or you could put the plastik lid on after baking, with glue

Does the polymer clay ever detach itself from the tin. I'm wanting to try a tin with a screw lid but worry it will come off with frequent use.

Hi MandaB no, it's great. The tin I actually use daily and it goes in and out of my bag just fine -once cooled from the oven I secure with superglue, especially the little details & to secure the mica & glitter I used Deco art dura clear varnish - works great 😁

Don’t use super glue. Use liquid clay.
