Can you use the srquins on a buttercream cake? My daughter wants this technique done on her buttercream cake.

Yes Diane. You can add the sequins on to fresh buttercream then airbrush the cake. You would not be able to paint it first as I did with fondant.

So why the need for fondant if you can do this directly on a butter cream? Couldn't you just color the butter cream first? I want to avoid fondant forever

Most, but not all, luster dusts will not dissolve in water. Therefore, you need to use alcohol or lemon extract to dissolve the dust for airbrushing. Lemon extract leaves a taste on the icing and quins so my preference is a clear alcohol that evaporates quickly.
