This was so useful to look at in the detail you offered here. I have just watched your 2hr video about everything I need to know about Gouache....and was a little concerned about the water element. I got the message from there that minimal water is required and to avoid wetting the colours in the pot, as this dilutes them and basically changes them to watercolour, as the pigment was diluted. I thought that this means with a container such as yours, I am in danger over either over watering or underwatering and letting them dry out. Im still not confident I will get the right balance, but thank you this has helped me see how much is required to keep it moist and clean, which I guess is an essential part.....

Yass! After six of my colors got molded I panicked and look for ways to save it then as I read from comments of other artist they use clove bud oil mixed with water and spray it to their paints, so I tried it as well and I think it works! I'm afraid at first that it will affect the quality of the paints but fortunately it doesn't so I'm happy to learn how to take care of my gouache 💚

I have to say that I deeply enjoyed watching you clean your palette. I have a 'thing' about me, you see, before I start to paint, my painting equipment has to be clean, and after I'm finished painting, everything must be clean. I just can't relax otherwise. Weird I know! Watching you take the time to clean out every crusty drop of paint, and revive it was simply bliss for me, weird huh? And I have to say that using your palette knife to move paint from cell to call was very clever. I found myself sighing with satisfaction at the end when you topped up the colours with fresh paint. Thank you for sharing this job with us. By the way, did you know that toothpaste is a mild abrasive for hard to clean spaces on silicon seals. I have the same palette and that's how I get mine clean when paint gets in the grooves. God bless you and all those you love. Have a great day!

It’s a great option if you don’t paint every day. I have gone 2 weeks without opening mine and it was fine (but i only recommend that if you know your gouache is clean and moist). If you know you’ll go a long while without using it, do a little maintenance, opening it once every week or every other week, you can spritz it with water and stir it and it will be fine.

When mixing, I always start with the gd intention of only using a clean brush to take from my palette... but then I get lost in the painting and just want the colour on the page. The results are pretty much like your palette, original paint colour with a bit of 'x'. Because of my bad habit I was worried about using a palette like this. So good to see that it is recoverable. @SarahBurnsStudio Жыл бұрын
@@janenepike8283 hmm I don’t have experience with that gouache. I’d completely clean it out and sterilise it, then replenish the gouache. You could add a tiny amount of clove bud oil to the ones that have issues. But in general it’s best to use it every few days at least, and don’t let too much water stay in it between use (like there shouldn’t be a pool of water on each color). Also when you use it, give the colors a quick stir with a toothpick. If you still have issues you might want to paint with distilled water, I’ve heard that helps.

@SarahBurnsStudio2 жыл бұрын
I dont clean it in the field, just when I’m home. For the micro, I only use a small dab of fresh gouache, otherwise I let it dry between uses and just refresh it with water the next time I use it. Also where do you get clove bud oil..I’ve seen clove oil but wasn’t sure if it was the same and I assume just a couple of drops into some water does the trick🤞..thanks for a fab informative video 🥰

I can answer your clove oil question...I bought my clove bud oil from a health food shop, you could try a chemists shop but I could only find clove oil there..look for somewhere that sells essential oils.
