Another awesome video! LOVE the parrying series. The details about anticipating the counters, and being in position to not get tagged, are CRUCIAL! These details and explanations are why your channel is GOLD! I'd love to see how you structure strength and conditioning for your boxers. Also, if you can share any drills for a new boxer to get over being gun shy(other than sparring), that would be excellent!

Your emphasis on mechanics, particularly being aware of hip positioning has been a win for me. This continues to follow that notion. I have followed you for a couple of years, taken mental notes, but really started to do new your drills in quarantine. I think it was your 2nd or 3rd drill, you start with a outside slip on a jab, counter 2-3, weave the right/ 3b - 2, weave the left/ 2-3, inside slip/ 3-2, roll his right/ 2-3.... that really opened my eyes to positional awareness and setting up my offense out of defense. I drilled that with angles, shadow boxed with that for 2 weeks until i could move with fluidity. Im older (40), I box for the mental challenge and exercise, its still fun to go in for a light spar after 3 months and shock a sparring partner with some new found knowledge. Appreciate you putting these out.

Brilliant again coach, that tip in turning the hip with the parry has made me see that your shoulder protects that side of jaw also. I just use to rely on the power of hand knocking the jab down. Also you load up the right hand for the counter . Attention to detail is fantastic.

Great video again! I see you coach, always in the disruption of balance and redirecting energy mind set. Subtle and sophisticated approach. A punch is at its strongest point coming forward, but then a punch is at its weakest point when you can manipulate it from side to side. Bonus, opponents have to recover from the deflection and the lost of balance. Just like you showed in that video at the end. It’s so quick and often missed by fans and boxers alike. I’m telling you’re one top notch coach.

I was so glad when you went into the body mechanics and the proper technique. I was skeptical at the start of the video, bc in Ruiz vs Joshua 2, Ruiz was parrying with the lead hand, and Joshua used it to bait him and crack him with the right, which is how Ruiz got cut. Learning the proper body mechanics thought makes the road hand parry a legitimate strategy, thank you for this video!

Thanks coach, I appreciate you addressing some of the misunderstandings with techniques and concepts like these. The hip turning only speaks to the harmony of having proper mechanics. Even gets your head out of the way further. Can you speak to using techniques like this and the forearm blocks, while moving? Andre Ward illustrates it in a video titled in this corner in the first few minutes. Would love to hear your insight on that kind of style and generally putting all these techniques together.

@@WorldClassBoxingChannel How do you feel about hitting the hard heavy bags over ones with more give? What's the point in their difference? I haven't figured it out yet, so I switch between them. The really hard bag "springs" my punch back where the soft one, obviously, it absorbs most of the impact.

I teach a thing I call Catch and counter. That is catching their jab with your rear hand (your two) like a baseball and counter with you one (jab) it is fast and it stops their two. This is right handed fighter on a right handed fighter but with modification it works on a southpaw.

Some say it is defensively better to look at your opponent neck for defense or upper chest some say it's better to look in the eyes, what do you say coach?
@WorldClassBoxingChannel4 жыл бұрын
I would say it’s like driving a car you don’t stare at the yellow lines on the road or any one thing. You look at the overall scene where your driving. You need to see the whole road can’t get mesmerized on one thing. You have to be aware of your surroundings or a deer could run out in front of you etc etc.. In a boxing ring if you fixate on one thing you can get mesmerized and set up. There is a lot of insight and FEEL that goes on in boxing ring. Your mind has to be free flowing your eyes can not get set in stone on one thing.
