I have been a follower of your instructional videos for several years. I live in California and would be interested to attend one of your seminars in the future. As a Filipino martial artist I see the similarities in what we do. Your method teaching is clear and fluid in demonstration. .

Silat is in my top 3 martial arts rn together with Krav Maga and "JKD" as no1 (which can include both). I´m constantly looking for new arts they´re all so unique but in the same time often similar to one another, interesting. Btw do they use eye-jabs in Silat and what are your thoughts on that? Also thx for keeping up the tradition, appreciated! I´m personally not sticking to styles as much but without them there would be no "framework", culture etc.^^

If you slow it way down, he does an unnecessary pass of the blade on his second tap of it. He actually stops the blade with one motion and then reverses it with the second motion, but he fails to move his leg out of the way. The other guy is being compliant for the demo, but there’s a very good chance the instructor could have cut his own femoral artery with that maneuver. There’s also way to many transfers with the hands once the blade it brought up to chest level. Even in Silat/FMA, which can be very complex to implement, there are more mechanically simple solutions.

Does this work ? We are relying too much that the cross is pulled to the other side. Wouldnt the attackers body adjust itself in a real fight and it will be too fast to pull his leg ?
@shanekim285 жыл бұрын
You bring up a good point. Silat is an absolutely devastating art against an untrained attacker, so without a doubt, this will work in a real street fight. Untrained attackers will not be fast enough to react against a quick person trained in self defense. I don't think the attacker would be able to adjust himself in a real fight, because you've already off-balanced him with the initial punch to the side. This is all meant to be one fluid movement to end the fight as quickly as possible, so you would have ample opportunity to sweep the leg. If you see the opportunity to use this after you pull the cross, then you should use it. It's not guaranteed to work, in which case you should adapt and try a different technique.
@cheowwenhao47955 жыл бұрын
In this form of silat, anything that goes beyond the first blow to the kidney/ribs/back of the head that'll immediately end the fight is an effort to preserve the art form. Also, he is purposefully chambers his attack to create 'opening' to lure the attacker into committing the cross. The hidden point here is that the attacker's left arm was actually locked into position, and the body is forced in an awkward position
@J_a_k_e_9 ай бұрын
In Silat you make the attacker do what you want be reversing the roles and counter striking to make them react in a way that you expect and can exploit.

Ive used a silat moves in sparring with a buddy more than once. Got an instant tap out. Disclaimer: Its not easy to set up, but if youre lucky, silat moves can be effective. The way how sparring works, theres more than enough chances to try a few. If the move failed, just retract to not get grabbed. Then try again. There is no free win. Plus, what is taught here isnt just silat. The concept still stands. Lets break it down since we have the luxury of watching it from a screen. Its diamond stepping. Exists as a concept in many martial arts. And then a liver punch. Again, not an uncommon thing. Lets ignore the chaotic stuff with the hands because that obviously wont happen as planned in real life. Lastly, a leg sweep. Absolutely common in many other functional martial arts.

sparring in silat more to silat olahraga example muay chaiya to muay thai likely more to point system we dont use dangerous movement or strike to our partner in sparring same like wrestler they dont use body slam or pile driver to their sparring partner like jessica andrade did to rose namajunas or body slam like rampage jackson ko his opponent

Dear people please run as fast as you can if somebody atacks you with a knife. You get killed, never never never fight with someone who has a knife and i simply don't understand why martial arts "masters" again and again like to believe you can.

What if you're unable to run. You need to know at least something to defend yourself
@andrewsteer88609 ай бұрын
Do you practice running? Can you run further/faster than them? You can’t determine that. What you practice is martial arts, incapacitate them and then run

There are martial arts that preacticed the use of knives and weapons. Silat is one of them. They all say run, but the people and culture that practiced in these arts, are teaching you the art. You clicked the video, same as everyone else
@maveric11898 ай бұрын
I always see this kind of comment. There are CERTAIN condition or situation where you CAN'T just run away. For example where you are getting cornered, for people who have knee problems or if you have someone with you such as a small child or old grandpa. Do you just run or leave them behind? What if the knife attacker can run faster than you? Chance is he can easily stab you from the back. In other words, run if you. If you CAN'T, DEFEND yourself. Besides, silat is an ancient martial art which was formed as a protection in the region where people used knife and machete in conflicts. It has been battle tested for centuries.
