Thanks as always for your kind words, Regina! Yes, it was very nice to have the neighbor give us the figs. It seems people here have an abundance of fruit. I'm looking forward to the day when the trees I've planted will produce fruit so that I can share with others. Thanks as always for your support. Hope you have a great evening!

I’ve watched the video twice and my figs are dehydrating now. I had sliced them so I’m happy about that. Thank you!

Have you ever had or made fig preserves. They are so delicious. It’s easy but a long process. I wash take the stems off . For my sugar if I have two cups figs I do one cup sugar . And so on for ever how many cups u have . Then cook the sugar and figs until the syrup gets a little thick, I don’t cook as long as if it was jelly . And once they have turned a darker color you can taste to see if you want to add a little more sugar. I put a lid part the way on them and cook on medium. Once this figs syrup get to how you like it pack in hot jars and lids and water bath for ten minutes. And let the sit over night and remove the rings and check for sealed. You can add lemon but I don’t. This is how my grandmother and mother made fig preserves for many years . I even have a piece of mom’s bush and hers was from grandmas bush .

Thanks for sharing your process. Sounds good! I have made fig jam using the Ball Jam and Jelly maker (kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4a7oXSkptamb5I) How wonderful that you have a "generational" fig bush. Very cool!

Good Figs dehydration process. It came out still in nice color. I like dry figs for cereals. Thumbs up! 10

About 22 hours total time at 125°F. Slice into rounds instead of quartering or halving because they dry faster and more evenly. I had to write it down, I watched the ending 3 times because I kept missing the end total time LOL! Thank you for this video! I like taking them dried, lightly coating with coconut oil (does not take much, and I like the unrefined because I like the taste of coconut) and dehydrating for a short period of time to rewarm them up and they will soften a little bit...then add them on top of a salad (while warm) with some sliced anise/fennel bulb or asian pear.

This was a fantastic tutorial. Thank you! I’ve got a fig tree that’s full of figs this year. My dehydrator is a Cabelas brand. I’m going to try the slices method since that looked like it worked out well.

This has really helped my deal with long times required for dehydrating fruits. It seems many (that I see) on Y T claim that most everything takes 8 hours or less. In my experience it’s much longer and I’ve wondered if it’s my unit. The temp can be selected along with the time. My neighbor is gifting me her figs which are ripening now, but she’s going out of town,. At first I thought I’d just freeze till I wanted to make jam, but you’ve encouraged me to dehydrate! Many thanks!

I remember one of my aunts giving us candied figs. She is 97 now, and living in a nursing home. But many years back, she had a home with fig trees and olive trees. We got homemade candied figs and home canned olives from her. Yum!

I’ve seen lots of videos that say the temp should be set to ~140 and it usually results in less dehydrating time. Any reason you chose 125? Also, great video and keep up the awesome work!

Im shopping for a dehydrator now xoxo
@StockingMyPantry3 жыл бұрын
Great! The main thing is to get one with a temperature gauge. There are some without that, and they tend to dehydrate at a really high temperature. That's good if you're making jerky, but not so good for dehdyrating fruit and vegetables.

Does the skin peel off easily after dehydration?
@StockingMyPantry3 жыл бұрын
Great question! I haven't peeled it off, but I think it could be difficult to do. I just rehydrate and then use in smoothies, peel and all. If you want it peeled, I would peel it before dehydrating.

Unfortunately, I'm by myself, and have 2 huge fig trees that produce an average of 60-80 pound per year and ALOT are wasted. This is my new solution.
@StockingMyPantry4 ай бұрын
Wow! That's a lot of figs! Dehydrating is definitely a good option. I've also enjoyed fig jam, but you can only eat so much jam!

Kindly say about practical shelf life of these dehydrated figs ???
@StockingMyPantry Жыл бұрын
Great question. Much depends on how you store them. For instance, they will easily last a couple of years if you vacuum seal them and store them in a cool, dry space. If you don't have such ideal conditions, then I would plan to use them within a year. They shouldn't go bad, but the quality may degrade over time.

Satisfaction is a synonym, for the information u always share!!! Now i believe my parents will not blame me for wasting money if i buy a dehydrator. I have LG microwave but foumd that no reputed brand makes dehydrator. While there is no rocket science in making it. Now i feel only casori or nesco are on top. But deapite such vacuum in this segment of dehydrator no bog company is jumping into it. Your efforts are of great help maam.

Please tell me how you do it as I’ve tried several times and I’ve read in dozens of articles on figs and they all say it won’t work. 🤪
@StockingMyPantry Жыл бұрын
Hmmm. . . are you starting with rock hard completely unripened figs? If so, that is probably the issue. It helps if they are already starting to ripen.
