This feels a bit manipulative by google. It forces you to essentially sync your photos and then tells you youre out of space so you need to buy more and then doesnt make it easy to make more space.

@s7r_extixan Yes, it works, just follow the same steps. One very important thing to note is that once you've done it, do NOT choose the "review out of sync changes" option in the Google photos APP, as it'll take you to a page where you can see the photos you deleted on the Web google drive and will basically ask you if you you wanna delete them from your phone too (so that both your drive and local photos are synced)

You guys have probably already solved it. But for people still wondering, if you click twice on the date mark on the top of the photos it should select all the photos of that day. Still a lotta clicking but hope it helps a bit. Good luck!!

Thanks I tried your method Trevor and it works. Deleting photos on the Google Photos app deletes the photo on my phone but deleting photos on phone browser keeps the photo on my phone. I'm using a Pixel phone.

Never had an issue with my google email until 2 months ago when it wanted to store my photos and while I was half asleep I agree to it…not knowing they would charge me later..I already pay for apple iCloud storage…I don’t want to have to pay for another program to save the same photos. Go to that picture in Google photos and click "delete from device". If it's uploaded, it stays in the cloud and gets deleted on your phone.

Thanks for sharing the idea. It didn't work for me because when I wanted to delete a photo on the web, it asks "Remove from your Google Account, devices with backup turned on, and places shared within Google Photos?". I knew from this message that my photo on my phone will be deleted as well. I deleted this photo and just as I thought it deleted the photo on my phone as well. Does anyone else have this problem? I don't see a workaround. Another related question: Even if this works as you suggested, doesn't the photo will show up on Google Photos again once it does a Backup in the future?

It says remove from "devices with backup turned on" so maybe try turning off backup on your Google photos app(from 'Photos settings' in profile) and THEN deleting it from the website?

Sync your photos to google photos then backup them and go to gallery delete photos from it then check your google photos you'll see them there and they aren't deleted

It's not just google photos that loves to take over your electronics, Microsoft uses one drive which does the same thing. If you delete anything from one drive it deletes it from your computer or phone.

when you remove from the trash permanently, dont do it on the app like he said but do it on browser where you actually moved the photo to bin. thats how i did mine and it worked :)

If you're still interested in Samsung phone's, the S20 FE 5g, Galaxy A54 and Galaxy A34 still use sd cards with mximum 1TB storage! Hope this helps you

On my app it doesn't give me an option "don't allow". It's Android. And I also realised that on the web browser my photos aren't backed up for 2 years. However, I tested your web browser trick. I deleted an unimportant photo. Then i went back to the app. Yes, the photo is there but the other photos that aren't deleted have an icon on the right bottom of the photos. When I delete a photo, the icon disappears. I also got a notification saying that the photo will be deleted permanently in 60 days so I'm not sure you'll have your photos on your phone after 60 days.

I accidentally synced my pictures to Photos and quickly filled up my space, this made my gmail get filled as well. You can delete photos from Google Photos without removing them from your device by selecting the photos and using the "Remove from device" option.
