How To: Depot M.A.C Eyeshadows

How to depot your MAC eyeshadows and save money! Back to MAC your 6 empty eyeshadow's and get 1 FREE new product. (MAC counters it's only a free lipstick but a MAC store you get a free lipstick, eyeshadow or gloss). This is a quick and easy way to depot the shadows from their plastic containers, save SPACE and get a FREE item faster with the recycling program at MAC.

Its apart of the Back 2 MAC Recycling Program MAC cares about the environment and takes back it's primary packaging to recycle the plastic and materials to re-use for new packaging. In exchange, you get a freebie. a lipstick or a lipgloss (like she said in the video). (I've worked at MAC before!)

If you want to make sure that you don't hear the plastic too much, I suggest using a hair dryer! That's what I do, and it just gives me more control

Thanks for this tip! For me, instead of putting the eye shadow pan on the straightening iron, I put the eye shadow pan on a wide knife, put the knife over stove, then the eye shadow pan is easy to remove from the plastic faster & easier. I have an old ELF eye shadow custom compact, that fits my MAC eye-shadows.

OK I figured it out in a seam ripper is the best possible thing to do the initial praying out with. You can't enjoy yourself as much and it is so perfectly suited for this.

After you heat it just a little bit you don't need to jam the knife inside. All you have to do is push from the back and pop it will just come out! This totally avoids having your eyeshadow get ruined as well as the pan.

its a lot easier and wont bend the metal along the eye shadow, if you turn it upside down and poke the whole underneath and pop the eye shadow out

Also when it's warm you could push it from the bottom and the eyeshadow comes out,that way you won't crack it or bend the sides.

Thank you so much, last time I went to MAC they demanded that the eyeshadow pans had to be in there, which really annoyed me. Next time I will go back and tell them off, because if you buy just the pans you cannot back to MAC them.

It really depends on which Mac store you are returning it to. Each one has a different policy. When I lived in Henderson NV, the MAC store took them with just the plastic without the metal pan. I now live in Houston and 2/3 stores said they had to have the metal pan to qualify for Back 2 Mac.

you can use the left over eyeshadow holding plastic for home made lip products or mixed shadow

To keep from bending your pans push them out from the bottom not the side once you've melted them a little.

i dont get how this saves money because the refill eyeshadows are only $10 but the ones that come in that black container thing are $16. wouldn't it save so much money to just buy the refill pan in the first place???

I think she means that you'll save money by getting a free lipstick from Mac when you bring back the empty containers

+shellymacful but don't you need 6 empty containers to get the free lipstick? that's 6 dollars. extra, for every 6 containers...that's 36 bucks when a lipstick only costs 17

For some reason I really can't take out the plastic top part out of the case? In the video it looked so easy with some tweezers or a knife but mine will not budge? Is it the newer shadows that are harder to get out? Please help!

Well you'll have to try and see if the counter in Macy's willl let you if not, but im pretty sure they will accept you're MAC products! Yes you need atleast 6 containers, to be sure if they'll accept the MAC product container you can check the box that the MAC product comes in, if it has "Back 2 MAC" on the flaps .

Mac has the return policy here in South Africa to. I just ordered off their online store as the mac counters do not sell the refill pans. But does anyone know if they will also accept the refill pans that I have ordered once I am done with them? or does it have to have the whole pot

yea you do. just because its metal doesnt mean its magnetc. The little pan has to have a magnet on it to stick to a magnetised surface

AWESOME VIDEO!!!!! Only complaint is I wish you had said about how long you keep everything on the flat iron. I know it's a few seconds but there's a big difference between 10 and 30 or more seconds. :)

I get it's nice to buy in the pots, but it's way cheaper to just buy a Z-palette and the shadows in pan form right off the bat. quick math (sorry lol) For me, each shadow pot is $19.00 cdn x 6 = $114.00, pans are $12.00 each x 6 is $72.00 for a difference of $42.00 cdn. even if i were able to exchange 6 empty pots for a free shadow or lipstick..(none around me) Mac would still be keeping quite a bit of my money. I like mac, i have a few products, but I'll only be buying their shadows in pans! For $114.00 I could actually buy almost 10 pans (9 1/2 to be more precise) OR a Z-palette for $27 and 7 pans and still have a little $$ left over ;p

let me clarify, yes if you buy them without the packaging but no otherwise, however, I have never added magnets to the back of mine, they sit tightly inside MAC's palette and do not budge, however I'm not trying to shake them upside down. As long as the lid is shut tight, you are good to go with these.
