Mojang has actually more or less said the refuse to add chairs. God only knows why, since there's already a sitting animation from boats, horses, minecarts, etc. If they think it limits building creativity, they just need to let you sit on carpet or something, make an elaborate chair out of blocks, place a carpet as a cushion, there you go, everyone is happy.
