Is it possible to hide the sewing line on the exterior? (making the stitching invisible)
@TeranAtelier4 ай бұрын
Yes there is a hidden stitch method you can use to craft wallets and other projects. It involves slicing the leather in half a bit beyond the stitching line, stitching, and then gluing down the sliced open section to hide the stitching. This is similar to how stitching can be hidden on the sole of a leather shoe.

Hello Teran, I am a big fan of your channel, also a Subcriber and notification bell 🙂 I really like your videos, especially those about how to design patterns with CAD which I downloaded and I am now learning thanks to you. A couple of questions: where are you based from ? Is Teran your name ? and last one - where do you buy the Salamander reinforcement??? I am from UK and is very difficult to get Salamander reinforcement here. Thanks for all your work and keep it on - Your CAD videos are very popular among my friends

Hi, thank you very much for your support. Yes Teran is my name and I am from Australia. I managed to find the salamander bonded leather on Aliexpress. I really enjoy designing with CAD, both leather patterns and 3D printed designs, and plan to make some videos on it.

Hi Teran, do you use lining at the cash pocket (flesh side of the outer layer & mid layer)?
@TeranAtelier2 жыл бұрын
For the outer layer I use a small section of lining at the top for a veg tan exterior and full lining if an exotic exterior. For the middle layer I normally do not use lining and just burnish the flesh side. It is very important to consider the overall thickness of a project before adding lining to make sure it doesn't end up overly bulky.
@jstudios26982 жыл бұрын
@@TeranAtelier i see. I agree with the thickness. Regarding the burnishing flesh side, if you use different leather for exterior & mid layer, wouldn't the flesh sides have different color? Would it look bad for the cash pocket?
@TeranAtelier2 жыл бұрын
@@jstudios2698 The lining leather for the exterior layer (both a thin strip or fully lined) should be the same leather as the middle layer. The two exposed flesh sides may end up as different colors but the thin strip of lining leather at the top with stitching will nicely balance the overall look of the cash pocket.
@ThoughtFission3 жыл бұрын
Such a useful video. Thank you! How do you get the leather to the correct thickness? Do you split it yourself or do you have suppliers that will split it. I'm having a tough time finding suppliers that will split it here in France. Wasn't an issue when I was living at home in Canada.
@TeranAtelier3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I don't yet have a skiving machine to split the leather myself. If I buy the leather online I get use the shop's splitting service otherwise I go to a local shop that can split smaller panels of leather.

@@TeranAtelier Thanks :) I'll continue my search for a supplier here that can do that. Hope you know how valuable your videos are to people like me. I've learned so much from watching them.

Victorio Projects has an interesting build video for a card wallet that would make for a good three-part tutorial. I've ordered the thin adhesive-backed non-woven material he uses, but I'm not sure of the exact name, which I'd like to know to be able to look for other sources.
@TeranAtelier3 жыл бұрын
I have seen that type of material with a sticky back on Alixpress but I haven't used it before. My preference is to use leather wherever possible.
@pequodexpress3 жыл бұрын
@@TeranAtelier I remember you stating that you prefer to use 100% leather. I feel the same, but this construction method is intriguing, and Victor shows more if the process. I know of only one source, a Taobao seller, for the exact material, which appears to be a nonwoven nylon that is 0.1mm thick. I've looked all over the place and have not seen another seller.
@TeranAtelier3 жыл бұрын
@@pequodexpress I can see how it can be useful especially for those card wallets with pockets on both sides. It could easily save a few millimeters over using full leather.

Geez where was this video a few weeks ago, i was beating myself up over a cash pocket. I ended up using some mission grained pig skin. I've been getting into splitting pueblo and buttero down to say .6mm however i worry for it to stretch later with use. Pueblo is such a great textured leather I want to use it on all my products lol
@TeranAtelier3 жыл бұрын
I found that there was little information about cash dividers as not many people were using them. I added that extra top layer on the divider to give it some shape and help with stretching issues. Pueblo is great to work with and looks fantastic, but I do find it a bit more stretchy than Buttero when skived thin.

what about adding additional flap in the middle? how does it is constructed/attached to the main bifold?
@TeranAtelier3 жыл бұрын
I make it so the divider layer is shorter than the other two layers so it is mostly hidden, then glue it to the exterior layer only on the sides before gluing on the inside layer. You can see how I do it in my bifold making video where I also have a pattern: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZm3q5-KaZZ9a9k
