As is so often said - 'the journey is everything'. As an apprentice shipwright I'm truly impressed by Bob Emser's shipwright skills, patience and attention to detail. The way in which he reconfigured the plans for Arabella's skiff is spot on. Oh, and the half hull model is a real work of art!

Liking the lines of Fae,are you guys considering lapped strake construction? Could make for a exceptionally lightweight hull form. 🤔
@TheArtofBoatBuilding
@TheArtofBoatBuilding Жыл бұрын
@@danoyes1 Steve requested it be strip planked. For Steve, repurposing Victoria’s planking was very important. Getting clean strakes for lapstrake construction would have been nearly impossible. He also want it to have a robust finish considering how he plans on using the tender. As you most likely know glassing the outside of a clinker boat is quite difficult considering all the sharp edges. Thanks for watching! Bob

Absolutely fantastic! Steve is Capt. Kirk and you're Spock. He's young and idealistic. Sometimes annoyingly so. You're straight figure it out in the best way possible. Victoria never stood a chance. You've seemingly tackled the challenges of size with logic and ease. She'll turn out nothing else except beautiful.

Hey Bob, I caught up with Arabella's videos and had to make my way over here for this series. I am in the process of choosing my first boat to build, and I would be interested if you put together line drawings/ plans for Victoria. I want to build a rowing/sailing tender to take out on the small lakes accessible where I live. It's funny, on my own I came to the conclusion that the Tenderly Sailing Dinghy looked like a great first project, but I didn't want to use plywood. I thought maybe I might work up to the Haven 12-1/2 Footer after finishing the Tenderly. I came to this conclusion a few months before ever discovering your channel! Suffice to say I am pleased and grateful you are putting together these outstanding videos. Thank you for making beautiful boats and bringing us all along for the ride.

The gun for plastic nails was an interesting concept, especially when the material will be worked on with wood working tools. I also thought it was interesting that you used Photoshop to digitize the lines drawing. Messing with fair curves through predetermined points is a touchy business with typical CAD software. Your model was beautiful.

I was very interested in watching this build of a half model. I have plans for a W. Atkins 18' sailboat, called Greenshank that I owned and sailed for many years, and I would like to use those plans to build a half model. My boat was built in 1946 on Long Island with a shortened mast from the plans. W Atkins designed and published many boat plans for MoToRboat magazine, Greenshank being one in that series. Actually, I keep thinking that I would love to build the boat, strip plank with fiberglass to keep annual maintenance to a minimum. I'm not ready to make that commitment, but a half model would be a nice challenge.
