Hi, will you be doing a tutorial on how to create a magazine spread?
@prowestrealestate9 жыл бұрын
Hello Is there a way to insert a gutter/creep in an already established document? I have an landscape A4 facing pages (eg each page is A4 landscape) document that I need to allow for a 2.77mm spine with a 3mm bleed. I also need to export this document as a 1-up multiple page press ready PDF. This document is to be a ‘perfect bound book’.

Hi - thanks for that - that is really helpful. I know this will be a silly question - but if you create another document for your magazine - and it is only one page - how do you design on the inside front and inside back cover - please help

Soooo using A3 spread with 2 columns for front and back of an A4 magazine correct? Do I need to add half the amount that is in the gutter to either end of the document so that it wraps perfectly??

Thanks for sharing but I didn't quite get this cause your spine stops at the margin area top and bottom, but it will print all the way to your page markers (black mark) and of course full bleed in your case for the background color. So, what happens to the excessive space on the top and bottom of the spine? Can I add color all the way to the bleed marks at the top and bottom and it will print full bleed? Meaning, the gutter in this case. Since it IS a gutter in a two column setup on a ONE page layout I started to think that it wouldn't quite print like if its a standard setup as a two page spread. Or will it? I think I'm missing something here. Do you deliver this as a separate PDF to the printer, and the content pages in another file?

ventende If you want your spine to be a solid color, you would fill the entire area from bleed line top (red line) to bleed line bottom. Not just to the magenta margin lines. You would keep your spine text there to ensure it doesn't get trimmed away. I show you where the spine folds which is where the magenta boxes stop. You will want to keep all back and front cover content in this area. I often deliver my covers in a separate PDF from the content pages. Most magazine printers will separate the pages into their own files if they don't request that you deliver final files that way.

Design Like a Pro Thanks for getting back to me on this one. I guess its difficult to know exact where the spine folds as that depends on how thick the publication is - right? So the magenta boxes is positioned at what you presume would be an ample measure from the spine area? I think I came across some sort of mark regulator for trim procedures like this, I believe it created a black crop mark / trim marker on both sides of the spine on the PDF export. I've seen different approaches on how to solve a back/spine/front page layout. The other one is based on three pages side by side and then alter the width of the center page with the Page Tool to whatever size you would like the spine to be - then export that as Spreads in the PDF dialog.

Hi I was wondering are you able to show a video of making up a double page spread in an A4 magazine that's perfect bound? The spread would have a photograph covering both pages! thanks Jo :-)

first i would like to thank you for your Exertion and your Excellent channel.. Dear sir ., i am a designer tray to learn Adobe Indesign because i used the corel draw from 6 years and i found that indesign very easy to design the book layout and magazine so i already learned it and how to use all tools .. but i need some technical way how to finish the job as professional designer ... so my question is what the technical way for design magazine or 4 color book which Consists of many pages and cover with big spine like ( Jacket cover with text name in the center) as u Explained.. can make the inside pages and the cover and ( Inside Back Cover ) in same file ?? to be easy when i print book with booklet option OR must make the Cover and inside back cover in separate file . and if i can make it in same file how to print this case with booklet option with Different size page ( Montage Facing Page ) to send it ready to printing press

What about the top and bottom of the spine area, I see a lot of magasine have text or identity objects closer to the top and bottom than in your layout, in your layout the spine doesnt even equal out the height of the pages. It stops where the margin of the pages are, but thats way to early.

What if the magazine cut size will be 5.5x8.5? Would the paper size then need to be A5 (or other), or should the A3 still be used?
@designlikeapro8 жыл бұрын
+Blue Spider Press I make booklets this size a lot for performance Playbills. First question is are you based in the US or in another country? A paper sizes are often used outside the US & Canada. A5 is 5.8x8.3 inches. If you need the magazine to be 5.5x8.5, stick to that in your document size. If you are in a country that doesn't use inches, then you would use A5 as the closest measurement to what you are after. Don't forget the bleed! Note, you can use sizes outside of A paper sizes. It breaks the standard so pricing will likely be a bit higher when you use custom paper sizes, but that doesn't mean you can't do it. Thanks for watching!

you need to adjust the margins accordingly so the content is evenly spaced...margins on the outside (left and right) need to be smaller.... or make sure you are designing the content all the way to the gutter and not the document margins
