Its so surreal to me still because I had a friend named Marqi who looked EXACTLY like Mariqueen, loved NIN and Trent, but she killed herself about 18 years ago. I remember when I first saw a photo of Mariqueen, I thought it was Marqi and I had to question reality for a bit. I hope Marqi can hear this beautiful music wherever she has moved onto. I miss that beautiful, sweet girl. 🖤

As Trent is the only official member of NIN, he is NIN, or NIN is part of Trent, but even though NIN's music ranges from one end of spectrum to another, we can still hear him experiment with something new and that is wonderful. How many artists can go from "Pretty hate machine" downward the spiral, hold on to sanity with_teeth, finish with Year Zero, and then move on to make something like this. I can name you one, Steven Wilson. These two guys are fucking geniuses, outstanding and unmatched

@Kirym0910 ай бұрын
In the June 3rd 2009 Mansfield NIN show (watch?v=rIsAazPVnFQ) Trent speaks briefly saying that he locked himself in a house on the ocean saying he was going to write new music but actually had the intent of committing suicide. He didn't obviously, but he did write La Mer. So yeah I absolutely agree, even if this isn't the house itself, this song and its set represents that house and that feeling.
@bigguy11649 ай бұрын
Good senses. Back in 1998 - 1999 Reznor was talking about starting a female side project where he could finally go back to hiding behind his synthesizer instead of being the main attraction. He apparently earmarked Aaliyah as a potential candidate but between making the fragile, his addiction problems and her demise, the idea was shelved for another 10 or so years.

This is definitely my favorite HTDA track thus far. It's a stronger departure from the signature NIN sound, has good lyrics, and it shows off Mariqueen's vocals. It also sounds suspiciously like bluegrass to me, which is one of my all time favorite genres. I'd like to hear more like this track.

I don't give a flying DUCK If wine you drink and BLOOD you SUCK. I just want a DUCKING choice To be one with conscious WATER. To be a whale Then a star fish A hungry shark And school of fish A dolphin as my avatar, To go places long and far… Where life is not a mystery But where it is just history… To boil, mist, rain or freeze, To change formations as I please. To be a lake, To be a pond, To help those silly humans bond. Where people dance to make it rain Sing in the shower, laugh and play Rainbows or snow to bring peace, Re~mind us just to love and be Respectful to our water friends Not take for granted as means to ends. Water just wants to be happy, To live in peace and harmony, Not to be stuck in human form, To keep contracts not to STORM.
