A few tips, hope you don’t mind🙃 Birds with striped heads are called bar heads. The colour depends on the mutation; cinnamons are brown, clearwings or greywings are grey. They don’t always completely disappear, some birds are flecked or ticked (that’s a fault) and some just never lose it. Some colour mutations don’t have a white iris ring, and some birds get it much earlier or later. Cinnamons have plum coloured eyes at a very young age and inos have red. For the cere colour, birds Ceres will change as they grow and through condition. For example a hen might have an almost white cere when she isn’t in condition, the cere gets darker and becomes a more nutty brown colour when it is ready to breed. Look at their feet ! If those are pink and smooth, your budgie is around 1 year old (more true with males budgies). Look at their cere too, it works better with this way.

These traits work for differentiating very young budgies from mature ones, but I am not aware of any method that can tell whether a bird is 3, 4 or 5 years of age...

Rings, in my opinion they should always be used by breeders, not only does it tell you the age of the bird but we keep records of our birds. If one was ever to get out, and was then found, they should be taken to a society (as in the bs or cages bird society) or a rescue that can get in contact with them. They will then take down the ring number and the society will get in contact with the breeder who will have the phone number of the owner and they can be reunited. If a bird has an official ring, you can tell the year that it was bred🙃

My two budgies seem to be abnormal then because they completely shit all over these rules. For example, one of them had the white eye ring basically since day 1, I got him when he was only a few months old and he already had the white ring, he still has it today. The blue budgie I got had completely black eyes back then and somehow still has them now despite closing in on 18 years of age. Other things in this video don't quite add up to them either. I also was only at the vet with them once and since she basically told me that she has barely any idea what to do with such small birds and with the closest available actual bird vet being way too far away I ended up doing anything on these birds myself, from clipping nails over taking care of the occasional disease all the way to removing nasty blood feathers. No idea why but they are both still alive at nearly 18 years of age, starting to think they are immortal.

I have two budgies, Peanut and Peacan. Peanut we got from a breeder and is a blue and white budgie. He is quite unfriendly but we still love him. Peacan is the complete opposite. He is a Lutino so it’s extremely hard to tell how old he is. He is a rescue budgie and extremely friendly to us and Peanut. The best advice I can give if you have either a Lutino or Albino budgie is to get a professional opinion on the age, take them to a breeder or the vet who can give you an idea based of their growth and health rather than appearances. It’s expensive but necessary to care for your budgie properly.

Thank you for this, some kids gave my dad a budgie with his cage to take care of since their grandpa couldn't anymore, and I was wondering how old he is since his cere is closer to the one at 1 year old I guess that is how old he is. Male is ready to breed when he is 8-9 months old..but for females, you have to wait at least for her to be 1 year old. I think the best season is in May and September.

A cock bird can breed from 7 months, a hen from nine, however I always recommend waiting about 10 months. It’s not always true though, some birds get into condition earlier or later. Remember NEVER breed without being mentored by a breeder and years of research, even if done properly, you can lose the parents or, more likely, the chicks. It’s a lot more than just putting a nest box in an letting them do their thing, you as the owner are responsible for them and the chicks. Hope this helps🙃

from the video I think mine is male 7-8 months old but also my budgie has those blue ceres which you said 2-3 years, but although male budgies move a lot and make sounds mine is quite, and when I make mine hear another budgies sounds it doesn't react at all, is it ill or there is some kinds of budgies that is very calm. NOTE: my budgie reacts when he hears the normal small birds (What I mean by normal is birds that is small and are not parrots).

Thanks for the video and everyone who'll try to help, my female budgie's previous owner told me that she is 11 months old but her cere is whitish cream color. But i can totally see her iris. Does it mean that she's younger than i'm told she is or that she's just not in the mood to breed? She's with me for around a couple of weeks now. I see my male bird trying to mate her and he successfully regurgitates in her beak. She eats it but gets away when he tries to meet. When I let them out for exercise they are always together does it mean that they are sexually attracted to each other or just that they see each other as their flock? I attached a nest to see their reaction and neither cared. Can you please ezplain me what is happening? 🙄
