"When you're ready to choose a shaft length for your movement, if there is any confusion at all, give me a call." Classic.

So glad to see your site, and finally have a resource to determine, before I order the mechanism, how long my threaded shaft needs to be. I intend to recess the mechanism 1/4-inch into my 5/8-inch wood clock face - leaving an actual thickness of 3/8-inch. How long should the threaded shaft be in order to accommodate the washer (if included) and nut? There will be no glass front, but I’d like to keep the hands as close to the face as reasonably possible. It occurs to me that you might prefer that I make this query in a text to your website. If so, please let me know. And thank you.

Thanks for in-depth explanation. But my live-edge wood clock to be is 1and 2/16 inch thick. Is there a shaft available that’s long enough?

Hello. I’m hoping replace the clock mechanism to a real nice wall clock I’ve had since 2003. I can’t find a new one to replace it with, so I’m hoping to fix the clock I already have. I purchased a clock mechanism but I can’t seem to be able to remove the existing one. I removed the hands but I can’t remove the part the holds the arms. Everything is smooth and can’t get a grip on it with small needle nose pliers. I will provide some photos to see if I can get some help. Thank you in advance.

What shaft length would I need to go through 18mm mdf please?

why does no one ever say what the drill hole size should be since not everyone is replacing a clock mechanism but building.

That's what I'm trying to find out. Are they standard 5/8" thick shafts? Are the holes standard? If you found out, please let me know. I can't seem to find that information. Thanks

@@missmaureen9509 Hello, I build Acrylic clocks and I have used several brands of clock movements, (motors) and even though they have had different shaft lengths, they have all been 7.4mm, (.29") thickness at the brass threaded part of the shaft. I have never seen one with a different width so far. I use a hole that's 7.950mm, (or .31") I'm cutting with a laser, but a 19/64th drill bit will be OK too.

I use the 5/16 drill bit...it's perfect size for shaft..it's just right..not too big or small

Hi. I'd like to use a motor through the core of a bicycle wheel. Is there a motor with a very long shaft as in 2 or 3 inches? Thanks.

How big the thread if and whether it is in different sizes available?
@Randalian Жыл бұрын
Most clocks are 8mm x 0.8 pitch; the thread can also be female (e.g. Hermle brand). If there is an unthreaded boss it is commonly 10mm.

My clock will be 36" x 36" square. The shaft length isn't my concern. It's the motor size. I'm using 1/4" to 1/2 " wood. Great information. Thank you.

I just bought 4 replacement movements but they are all too long and the second hand touches the glass, moving the whole unit back didn't work because then the movement stuck too far out the back so I just cut all the shafts down and filed a step for the hands to go over and all is well.

What would be the correct size to create a clock from a vinyl record can you please send me the link
@normanacree16353 жыл бұрын
If the shaft is too big in diameter, simply use a pair of scissors to ream it out a little. Open the scissors up, insert the narrowest part into the record hole, and start twisting. Check often to see if you have removed enough material as the vinyl is easily removed. Other methods work, too. Be creative. It ain't rocket surgery.

The information is wrong! There are different shaft diameter measurements where the hands fit. On mine the original hands were too big in the bore to fit the hour, minute and second hands. This is waffle about shaft lengths and probably the only one they sell with no worthwhile information other than that. Check the diameter where the hands fit as well as the shaft length.

I filled in their questionnaire which said they would respond in 24 hours. 48 hours later nothing. Called the shop and never spoke with a live person, after 20 minutes I hung up. I understand the Corona stuff, but are they so wealthy that they don't want new customers?

Did you seriously just post a video promising to explain how to tell the different sizes of the quartz clock shafts and then absolutely not tell us where the measurement is?? I’m taking an old one out of my clock, all I needed to know was where to measure so I knew I was getting the exact same size that I needed. I can’t believe you could not be bothered with six different sizes sitting there to not tell us the size of all six of them so we knew what to replace. And FU for not bothering to answer anybody’s questions on what size they would need for the last couple of years. What an absolute waste of time 😡
