I really enjoy your calmness and your leadership in your videos. You can see a lot based on what your horse is doing for and with you! Well done. I'm working with a youngster (4 years old with maybe 30 days on him) and I'm trying my best to find that calm leadership with him. It's been ages since I've worked with a youngster. I'm in my 50's and the last time I worked a young horse was about 10 years ago. I'm worried that my own worry will reflect on him. He's confident and very sweet and willing, I just want to work on myself.

You have no idea how helpful your videos have been- I love these horses so much but I have a lot of anxiety and fear of them because I had a bad experience in the beginning but I knew horses was what I wanted to do. I started to believe that the spooks, the misbehaving, and the unsafeness was just part of it and I had to overcome that... I’m learning tactics that have eased me that what I want to do can be safe and enjoyable which is kind of the point I guess - these have been great! 💛

Hi Aimie and Welcome! Should you want to learn more, I offer a wide array of learning opportunities here at my FL facility and on my online training academy for people and horses. Here is a little more about my approach. We believe in a holistic approach to horsemanship, providing expert knowledge and instruction for the whole horse and rider. Our approach is multi-dimensional and includes the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of both the person and horse’s well-being. We specialize in both foundation training and problem-solving and have the answers you are searching for. The key in horsemanship and having the partner you want with your horse is in foundation training. If your horse has either had 1) trauma or 2) hasn’t had a correct and solid foundation (start), they will either be too scared to learn or missing key building blocks to their development. Horses need years of development and learning to be at the level you see in many of the professional clinician and trainer’s horses - including what you see in my videos. There are no quick fixes, tricks or gimmicks and like any solid education, it takes a curriculum or program to follow so you are building a correctly foundation. We have 8 training modules that we follow in our curriculum that specialize in self-awareness, the spiritual connection, relationship, discipline, confidence, biomechanics and balanced riding. Click here for details on our training pyramid www.riderhorsemanship.com/rh-training-program. Should you be interested in learning online, we offer a very large and comprehensive online training academy for people and horses. Click here for details about our online academy training courses www.taoacademy-horse-training-courses.com/. Should you want to learn the step-by-step curriculum, please click here www.taoacademy-horse-training-courses.com/taomethodcourse. Thanks for your replies. It seems most of the trainers aren't around for the out of the arena experiences that I have encountered. This makes it difficult to describe what is needed to be seen in a video. As you said, " You can't put the horse , or the human, in a box with a specific label on them." You have to be there when things happen to better evaluate a situation. I would love having a trainer spend a summer riding with me for the season. Of course, for most of us the money it would require would be a limitation on that kind of interaction.

Hi Elli. Yes, all the horses I work with on the ground are prepared for riding. If you follow my youtube channel you will see me ride many of the horses I have in training. Your question is loaded, meaning you ask great questions and the answers are not easy. At this point you need a trainer to assist you in your education so you and the trainer can work together to train your horses and/or find a trainer who you trust and send your horses to them. Keep me posted. Warmly, Caroline

Very good points and examples of being connected with your horse. The only thing I'd like to see is the process of getting the horse to come to you for mounting and what not. I'm not sure if you have any videos on that or not, but if you don't, I'd suggest filming one. Otherwise, I really liked the video and the way your horse respects you on a spiritual level it seems.

Hi Ramen! The horse in this video is Zor (formerly named Sweet). He is a love, very sweet, wanting of relationship. He wasn't this way when he came to me. He was damaged with aggressive training methods - very shut down, anxious, stressed. He was owned by one of my boarders who was going to sell him and needed 30 days of my re-training to help him become more connected, partnered and confident. I have progress videos of him during that time. The video I've included for you shows how willing and connected he is at the mounting block, however it does not show him coming to pick me up: kzbin.info/www/bejne/epiUm5JuqtaUedU. The "pick me up" is part of my method. It's not a technique either but a result of the work. Here is video a student took of me and one of my school masters Smokey at liberty for the pick me up and bridleless riding kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpKzdJ2rf9WDapI. Thanks again for sharing! It would be more helpful if the horse wasn’t 100% calm. The anxiety abuse recovery all feed into it. I am in my 4th year with my abuse ptsd horse he is exponentially better but a trigger hits and he loses it. We recently had 2 corriente cows charge us on the trail and I have lost so much ground. Even then he froze in place instead of 180 whirl/bolt but I was not in the equation at that time. Now we are back to the bogus man behind every bush. If I am on the ground he is 100% with me. Transferring leadership to the saddle has been a long process.

hi, I had a few questions. I have a gelding I bought last year. he was very head shy of the bit/bridle. even the halter in the beginning. I just tried riding in a rope halter, the response is so much better. he was wonderful going out on a trailered ride. I had some problems taking him off my property. I have not tried in a rope halter yet. I also have not asked him for more than walk/trot this year, as I am pregnant. I have not had issues getting him to stop, he is not a horse who likes to move fast. but even asking him to canter takes a little leg pressure. he as never taken a misstep, or given me a reason to be leery. but I was wondering if you would recommend riding trails in a rope halter.
@TaoofHorsemanship
@TaoofHorsemanship 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Mollie and Welcome! Yes, I recommend riding and training - all the way up through the advanced levels in dressage, reining and hunter/jumper using a rope halter and lead rope that is tied like a hackamore. I have another free training video on my channel that is devoted to riding bitless. This would answer a lot for you. In the end, make sure your horse can w/t and canter in a rope halter and in an area where you both feel safe and comfortable BEFORE you test your "control" on the trail or anywhere new. Another area to pay attention too is how slow or careful your horse is. Sometimes this is a reflection of a horse not feeling safe in his environment and so he goes into 1 of 3 self-preservation modes, the freeze mode. This is where they look safe because they are slow, careful (too careful) when in reality they are scared to death, unsure, trepidatious and shutting down, checking out. If your not sure and need some support with your horse I offer a very comprehensive, step-by-step online training program, The Tao Method Course, that was designed for horse owners like you that want to re-start their horse so they can achieve the dream relationship and dream ride of a lifetime! The Tao Method Course is a step-by-step training curriculum that focuses on developing oneness between horses and people, in mind, body and soul. It is an accumulation of all my training (not problem solving) DVD's and so much more. It is very comprehensive, with 12 months of course videos to watch, study and practice. The online course works for both beginners to my method, and horse trainers. There are at least 7 learning module videos presented each month along with supplemental reading materials and "How to” practice sheets. The course is a step-by-step training and teaching curriculum that is based upon both my foundation training program for horses and my apprenticeship program for students. Basically, I am teaching you how to train/re-train your horse using my methods. The academy host 3 courses to select. The course I am recommending is the Tao method Course /www.schoox.com/bundle/28/The+Tao+Method+Monthly+Subscription. Once you enroll you are on a monthly subscription plan that allows you 24/7 access to any-and-all monthly videos. You can cancel at any time. The videos are organized into 12 months with Course 1 being where you would begin. In-order-for the training curriculum to work correctly for both you and your horse you would need to follow the numerical order of the courses beginning with 1 then 2 then 3 and so on. Each monthly course contains a minimum of 7 videos and “Try This” practice sheets or guides. A little about my purpose and why I developed The Tao Method Course. I am a rehab and foundation specialist. I have dedicated my life's work to helping both horses and people find the connection in the work their hearts desire as well as learn how to work together and in relationship. I know this is an old video but I need your help. I just started leasing a mare at my new barn. She needs a lot of work and I'm still learning a bunch of new stuff. This summer everyone is going on trails and I really want my mare too. I haven't rode her on one but other people have and they always say she's too hot to be a trail horse or it didn't go well. She's still A young horse but she's amazing in the arena. I am planning to walk her on the trails on foot just to see how she is so she isn't stressed about me on her back. How can I get he used too it?

I was leading my five year old horse down the road and he suddenly shook his head, struck out and quickly moved forward. My husband was riding beside us and there was a slight breeze. I can think of no reason for his behavior. Some people call this being a "playful" horse. I call it "dangerous" especially when he gets it into his head to do this while I am on him. He is a left brain introvert if that helps describe his reactive phases. He is also wants to bite everything. Do you have any suggestions on how to get him past this playfulness?
@TaoofHorsemanship
@TaoofHorsemanship 8 жыл бұрын
+nothinfancyful Hi Nothingfancyful and Welcome! As I mentioned in our previous youtube video exchange, I do not use, nor believe in, Parelli's horsenality chart. Sounds like your horse is smart and playful and at any time, he is a lose cannon meaning he can react. From what you've described, it sounds like his brain is not being exercised so he is acting out. He needs to be put into a consistent and correct training program that respects his mental aptitude while lovingly and firmly guides him as he matures. This will take years. Horses like your gelding usually don't mature until the age of 10. In regards to his playfulness, this is who he is. He strikes out because he has not been taught how to respect a persons space and he doesn't know what to do with his energy. You will need to learn how to work with it, guide, it and most of all develop him mentally so he learns how quiet his mind. My methodology to training - working with horses is all about this. Please visit my website to learn more riderhorsemanship.com/. Warmly, Caroline

Hi there. I'm recently watching your videos and I especially like you for being fair with horses. Since I will get a 4 yo barely handled (hoofes and grooming) warmblood mare who seems to be very sensitive and quickly escalating in a view days, I really wanted to know, if I really need to work with her at liberty. The barn does not allow liberty work on the arena and has currently no roundpen or something similar. Can I still help her to gain trust in me and create a good relation and partnership with her?

+Caroline Rider (Rider Horsemanship) Hi Caroline. Thank you so much for your answer. My horse came yesterday and the ride in the trailer was quite an adventure, since she managed to get rid of her halter and turn around in the trailer to look outside... Though her adrenalin must have been very high, she was fine and stood a bit worried in her stall after arriving. Today I was told, that she is running crazy. She would run through the fences or try to jump them, bolting and everything. Even in a paddock right beside other horses (of corse she doesn't know the stable and the horses). Now she is back in a stall and will be given natuarl medicine to calm down. I'm so scared right now and I'm at work right now where I can't leave bevor noon. Any suggestions, how I could help her? I know met her only for three times and our connection is therefore minimal.

@TaoofHorsemanship 9 жыл бұрын
+scared189 Hi Scared189. Your welcome! based upon the high level of anxiety your mare is demonstrating, I would NOT work her freely, at liberty in a round pen or anywhere. She needs to be worked online, in a long lead line and rope halter. I highly advise the use of a good quality rope halter and 12'+ lead to help manage her. Rope halters and leads made of marine quality (not the cheap stuff you can buy at local tack stores) are designed to help train. Due to the enormity of the situation and your mares extreme behavior, I also cannot advise what to do because it is very complex and potentially dangerous. Your mare needs experienced hands and skills sets. What I can recommend is watching more of my free videos on Holistic Horse's Blog channel: kzbin.info/aero/PL1UMI_k13fYWO_amtAh_aCljfta7T_5XI. If you do not find what you need within these videos you will need coaching and instruction. I offer both and via my DVD collection, specifically my new problem solving videos riderhorsemanship.com/index.php/product-category/dvds-2/ and my long distance coaching services: riderhorsemanship.com/index.php/long-distance-coaching/. +Tina Beck Hi Tina! Yes, you can begin the liberty work in a small paddock. If you don't have one you can make one by purchasing electric tape and stakes. Many of my students have taken an arena or small paddock and cut it in half with the electric tape and stakes. Warmly, Caroline

I like how you talking about trust and getting the horse comfortable but it bothers me that your calling horses unpredictable. Horses are never unpredictable, they always give clues and communicate before they do something. If your horse is uncomfortable it'll tell you. The problem is that people don't pay attention or notice the communication and the horse ends up going to into fight or flight. You talking about finding why they do this which is great but by saying horses are unpredictable it kind of goes against the idea of why they're doing it and just isn't true.

alayne2475 Hello Alayne! I couldn't agree with you more. And, there are several factors that make horses unpredictable. Firstly, until you get the horse thinking and using their left (cognitive) side of their brain they are going to react (not respond which takes thinking, cognitive abilities). It is the reacting side of their brain (right) that controls their prey instincts for freeze, fight or flight and these instincts make them upredictable (and potentially dangerous) to most people. You would need to have excellent observation skills and in-depth equine knowledge to catch a horse's thought before their action - this is what gives you the ability to know what happens before it happens with horses and ultimately what helps to keep you safe. Most people don't have that sharpened skill set and that's why we have so many accidents and horses deemed challenging and dangerous. This video, specifically my statement about "finding out why horses react or do what they do" is about reading horse behavior and understanding the true nature of that particular horse. This allows one to read their thoughts thus predict their behavior. Thanks again for you great comment as it allowed me to explain myself more clearly. Warmly, Caroline

The horses that you train are ridden or not? Please answer toy question . I have two horses. The one is 2 years old and she's pregnat 8-9 months and the other is 1 year and 4 months . I haven't ride them because they're wild. My horse Luna (1yo and 4 months ) is afraid a lot from anything .... what can I do? Both horses want to bite me and the pregnant horse ( Bella) want to kick me and bite me. And I'm 14 years old . I'm a child. Can I train them? I've never had a horse.
