We show how to diagnose your A/C not blowing cold air on your 2014-2019 chevrolet Silverado Sierra tahoe or suburban as we go step by step to show how to narrow down why your ac is not working and how to figure out why your ac is not cold in your truck or suv. We first discuss the common failure on these trucks is the ac condenser and the welds on the end are prone to leaking freon or refrigerant from the system causing the ac to completely stop working. This was a recall from GM on these models and years and unfortunately many did not get the recall even though the problem was the same on all trucks and suv during these years. We show where to look and how to use uv dye in the ac system and how to see exactly where the leak is coming from or where you can look on your truck before you spend your hard earned money!
Here is the A/C Condenser we bought

So this video REALLY helped me out alot!!! I was racking my brain trying to figure out where the leak was coming from.... I charged the system and put in some dye using this stupid injector tool I got from a part store (I didn't realize you could put the dye into the gage set before I watched this video)😅 then charged the system and sure enough BOTH the top and middle weld points were faulty. 😳😱 I'll be replacing the condenser this weekend and I'll also use your idea to reinforce it with some JB weld to better assure this won't happen again. I'm hoping this was the entirety of the issue with my truck. 🤞 Thanks for the content!! God bless! 🙌

Thank you sir for that concise diagnosis. I likely have the same problem in my 2014 Silverado, but no tools to fix that leak. At least I can undertake an economic way to determine where the leak is, hopefully saving time and money at the repair shop. I shop I spoke to already provided a horrible quote to replace the entire system without ever referring to this diagnosis. Watch out for those pirates.

cool basics, but you can hook up shop air to the yellow line on the manifold gauge and charge the system with air to find the leak since you had already determined there was no system pressure. This way you don't waste refrigerant or die.

There is dye in the system from the factory. Adding refrigerant brings it back into circulation. A system is always vacuumed before filling if empty. You could vacuum the low side to suck the dye in the high side. That body style always leaks in that same place. Put the can upside down and regulate it with the low side of the manifold. Just open it a small amount and the whole can will go in in a minute. You are evaporating the refrigerant in the can causing it to get cold and lose pressure. Upside down it evaporates outside the can and the temperature and pressure in the can remain much higher

On my 2018 Tahoe, the ac and heat failed, would shut off after about 20 minutes of driving. Shop said it was because the temp outside.. so replaced actuators, evaporator core. So now soo cold it freezes and closes vents, same as before. Shutting off ac opens vents, fan blows whole time too. And no heat until after 77, vents close again after while. Then heat at max stays on, ac at max stays on, blower set to max. There is no middle.. any help appreciated.

How did you find out which freon your truck uses? (134a or 1234yf)
@user-fp7ee2mk3c
@user-fp7ee2mk3c 3 күн бұрын
I'd put the gauges on the high and low. If you only have a can fill with gauge then if you don't see 50-55psi on a day like today in Missouri you don't have enough r134a.. not sure when GM switched or if they switched like Ram to the r1234x or not. So if you have good pressure nd you still don't have temp in the cabin check your cabin air filter or listen for a clicking sound that's telltale of the blender actuator that controls the door in the box that determines whether you have heat or AC (what temperature is allowed in the cabin), if you have pressure and it's not one of those things the control heads on GMs have been as big of a disaster as another brand I'm not mentioning.. probably a bigger disaster. If you have 4.5 volts back feeding at the ground near the condenser you need to check for stray voltages at the power distribution box.. next time get the W/T or a custom LoL. If you don't have the right pressure you need to find out if you have a slow leak or a fast one. If it takes a year or longer to leak out pressure I'd probably try some sealer charge and if it's a quick leak it's probably just minor like the low pressure switch cutout at the accumulator. I have ran GM systems with a bad high pressure switch by just bypassing it... but you'd want to know your pressure really well before you went that route and you'd have to know what you're up against there. If you do the latter make sure you keep that condenser clear of debris, in the least. In the case of the GM I ran without the high pressure switch I knew the system had been flushed and I knew it had a new compressor, condenser, accumulator, and orifice tube. If you don't know the internal condition of any of that I probably wouldn't do that for any indeterminate length of time.

I tried to recharge my Tahoe with one of the store bought AC recharge cans, and the fitting WILL NOT connect to the low pressure hose. Do I need a special fitting for my Tahoe?

Did you get an answer Kevin. My 2018 suburban is the same issue. The low pressure port will not attach to the standard quick connect. But everything I see on the web says if it's the right spot it'll attach. What did i find out ?

@@michaelcox86 YES! apparently my Tahoe, and potentially your Suburban takes a different refrigerant called R-1234YF. You can buy a recharge kit at Advanced Auto parts. I took my Tahoe to the dealer thinking the condenser must be leaking. They said I already had the upgraded condenser and that it wasnt leaking. They recharged my AC, and it blew cold the rest of the day. i parked it overnight and when I got in it in the morning the air was warm. I have another appointment on Tuesday of this week, so we'll see what they say.

@@thentantt there ended up being a leak in the same area he talked about. Dealership replaced the condenser after I contacted GM and told them about the issue. GM covered it.

Looks like I'm going to have to. Replaced mine about 2yrs ago. A/C went out 4 days ago, won't hold pressure after recharge, compressor won't cycle on

I was driving my truck and suddenly stopped blowing cold air and the temperature gauge went all the way down to 160. And when I stop the truck the radiator fan kept working for like 3 minutes

Tried having my ac fixed with a few other issues before the my extended warranty ran out. They said it seemed like it was working but did need to be charged. Well if you have to fucking charge it, then it’s not working, is it morons? After charging it, I brought I back a whole later and they said they couldn’t find a leak and it seemed like it was working…. Again! Still absolutely no ac in this truck. I don’t know how you can be paid by the hour and still be too lazy to do your job, but now I know I can likely just change the condenser.

Do not put the same manufactured condenser in as a replacement.If you do in a few years the same problem with the leak top left corner will leak again.The repair shop did the replacement and it leaked again after 2 years.Bad thin weld job in that area.What a friggin scam that is by GM.
