Funny how this trailer wiring was set up! Backyard electricians never cease to amaze me. But this trailer went above and beyond with the rear light buggies and zip ties! 😂 Nice job of figuring it out. When I’m out on the freeway with my boat trailer I see the most gawd-awful trailers absolutely hammering by me at 70+ mph. And you just know the bearings are either shot or loose! Glad we have people like you fixing stuff-thanks! 😅

The brown wire ground back feed diagnosis was really nice work, as if you’ve done this before! 😅 The mouse situation was also classic. Re-wiring the whole thing was the right thing to recommend. The Minnesota accent is perfect! Go get some hot dish and jell-o salad. How about some bars for dessert? 😊

Hi Dan, thanks for the good explanations. I had a question about 'backfeeding the ground' you were mentioning. I think you said during the third step (testing the right side) that the brown wire may be touching ground/frame somewhere, and acting like the return path or ground....Which is why the right light was lighting up even though the short white (ground) for the right light was visibly disconnected from the frame. The video then said that without that 'backfeeding', the right side shouldn't light up because its ground was clearly disconnected. My question is this: In the first test (testing the running lights) you put +12V on the brown wire to check if the running lights come on, (and they did, for the most part). ....but then we're suspecting in the third test (testing the right side lights) that the brown wire is acting as a ground..... then if true....how could we have connected +12V to brown in one test, while suspecting brown is being shorted to ground in another test? Any clarification would be appreciated. thanks Dan.

Thank you for the question. The brown wire was still caring voltage to the running light allowing it to function. However that brown wire was also making contact in the frame to the right side signal wire allowing voltage to back feed. When mice get into a trailer frame and start chewing wires the light can do a lot of strange things that can be hard to explain. Hope that helps

Watched a couple of your videos. I'll be attempting to rewire a 1991 snowmobile tilt trailer... I'll circle back around here in the shitbtalkin box and let you know how it goes.

@@therapawayhomestead5464 so I rewired the trailer. Tested it with the 12-volt battery and it worked...hook it to the car and nothing? Off to KZbin land to help diagnose this.

@@justingonzalez9854did you figure it out? Multimeter on the car wiring connector to see if you’re getting voltage at all?
@justingonzalez9854 Жыл бұрын
@@williamrgrant it ended up being a fuse. My wiring was good to go, surprisingly

Cant we just use a tester on the wires at different points , if connected to the truck?
@therapawayhomestead54642 ай бұрын
You can, however you will not know if the problem in is your truck not sending power to the trailer or the trailer itself. That’s why it’s nice to use a battery to separate the truck from the trailer

@therapawayhomestead5464 Learning as I go... Working back, the truckside connection is working... So I guess I need to work backwards from the trailer side connection, then through the wires all the way to the lights. (All running, brake,& signal lights aren't working.) No clear breaks or loose ground wires, hate to disconnect every connection for testing. - I thought I once people using alligator clips to test through insulation.

Does anyone have any idea's on the wiring harness coming from my SUV. When plug up my enclosed trailer my driver side tail light on the trailer comes on and stays on even when the SUV is turned off. Issue is on the vehicle side?? Fuse and ground wire is fine.
