Thank you for making a video about dark roasts. I hate that there's not a lot of videos about dark roasts so it makes it a bit trickier to get things dialed in.

Omg! This channel and this video in particular is incredible! Thank you so much. I got my machine recently and immediately went to try out some different beans, some of which are oily, and some of which are a serious medium roast. Clearly, I had mixed results with the same settings.

This is my favorite GB roast even though I initially chose it for my husband. I didn't even need to dial it in on my machine as whatever I had it set on was exactly right for this bean, too and I found that my built in grinder on my Barista Express performed really well. I got nice fluffy grinds, no clumping. I'm doing 19 grams, btw. Anyway, I feel like this has the thickest crema (even moreso than their Monsooned Malabar), super smooth full flavor and it didn't get sour when I added half & half, so it's a big win for me. I loved how smoky it smelled and how NOT burnt it was. I didn't find my beans to be overly oily at all...just a tad oily, perfectly roasted in my opinion. If someone is hesitant because their only experience with dark roast is Starbucks and the like, I encourage them to give this a try because this is not that...and I think anyone would be pleasantly surprised by this roast.

What is the default temperature on that machine, and what is the brewing temperature that you dialed in?

I can't do dark roasts unless it's espresso. Even then, I go medium roast.

Try a dark roast ristretto. Even makes older coffee taste really good and you can get a thick, syrupy body.

Off subject, but don't you dare using those gas hops without opening the windows. That little microwave fan sitting just above the flames will not remove the poisonous exhaust gases.
