Thank you for taking the time to let us watch and see your thinking of why you are cutting various pieces, cutting off tiny roots, opening up areas so water doesn't rot the root system etc. I learned so much from this video! Thank you for both filming and explaining your thought process step by step on a real, expensive peony! heart♥

I'm trying to remove peony roots for transplanting. The roots are as thick as tree trunks! Is it ok to axe through them? Suggestions?

I have dug and separated some peonies. Do I need to let the cuts in the tubers "heal" before I replant them?

Yes, best to let the cuts heal/dry for a few days. You can let them rest covered in damp peat so the roots don’t dry out.

If I was to relocate an established peony, do I still need to trim the roots as you do when dividing?

Usually dividing an established peony when relocating it makes it re-establish better. But if you move it during spring time which is not the best idea, i´d probably try to get a big clump with soil and everything. Can sometimes be difficult though.
