It’s a tradition I was born into. Finger tips, not nails. Creme first, of course…..Never lick your fingers!!!! Lol! This is such a natural understanding for me…..I don’t quite understand it, but it makes perfect sense.

The 3-tier tray is wrong. The order should be (eaten from bottom to top) tea sandwiches, scones on the middle plate, and desserts last on the top plate.

It is so important to have dining standards and etiquette. It’s not difficult to eat in a polite, pleasant way, and thankfully we have institutions that safeguard standards in our society that talks with mouths full, eats with hands, doesn’t know how to hold or use cutlery.

Hi, that sounds interesting. I'm from America, the southern California area, San Diego, and I did get to visit the UK years ago, (many years ago), and I do remember how the Brtiish people made a big deal about their tea!! They had back then, (1978), what they called, "Tea At High Noon", and at 4:00 PM. Do you remember that? And they did have scones, but they didn't look like the sumptuous looking biscuits, that were shown in this video. The scones in this video look like tasty Pillsbury biscuits here! Lol. 😊 And they did use real cream, poured into those teas, at the official tea times. (Unfortunately, I can't have real cream, because it's got way too much cholesterol in it, not good for my heart, and I'm somewhat lactose intolerant, so I drink Lactaid Brand milks). 🤗

Shame on those that think evil of the UK Crown. It is the heart of our Monarch that guides us and the mind of Her Majesty that perceives our course. Long may she reign and long may she live Insha Allah.

Rather than hooking your finger through the handle, shouldn't you pinch it between your index finger and thumb? Watch Miss Marple, she and her friends know. Also what about MIF? Although I'm an American, I learned in the Scottish Highlands from my friend who went to Benenden. Her tutorials were priceless.
@pat4brown3 жыл бұрын
Originally tea cups were very small and so was the handle. It’s impossible to put your finger through the handle, or if you could, it might get stuck. So you hold the tiny handles between your thumb and finger.

Interesting that you break a scone versus cutting it. I guess butter is called cream in UK. The scones that I’m familiar with are flavored like orange or cinnamon and usually eaten without cream or jam.
@upscalebohemian53723 жыл бұрын
No, they're talking about clotted cream. Look for the recipe from Chef John. It's so easy to make.
@upscalebohemian53723 жыл бұрын
British-style scones are 2" round, not the triangular wedges like in the U.S. America's Test Kitchen has an excellent recipe for British style scones with currants. It's better than the recipe used at Buckingham Palace.
@pat4brown3 жыл бұрын
Twisting the scone to open it would depend on who made them, as many would just end up as a pile of crumbs. I always cut them. The dilemma is which to put on first, the jam or the clotted cream because you would end up getting cream in the jam, or jam in the cream. The clotted cream is very thick, almost like butter. Delicious!
